can you put some pics of the green R up so we can see how its coming along?

Here is a pic of the bike minus a few things. It will have more progress but plan to post all the pics once completely finished.

It's coming along, just not as fast as I would like. I plan to hit it some this weekend.

I know some people have asked me to see mine with the plastics on it, well here is some with some stock 86 plastics that I painted. They arent perfect by any means but they will do for now, also I appologize for the crappy pics:

before plastics:

http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/3/7100384167.jpg (http://www.putfile.com/pic/7810078)

http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/3/7100384171.jpg (http://www.putfile.com/pic/7810079)

after plastics:

http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/6/15322122149.jpg (http://www.putfile.com/pic/8250371)

http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/6/15322122240.jpg (http://www.putfile.com/pic/8250373)

http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/6/15322122213.jpg (http://www.putfile.com/pic/8250372)

http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/6/15322122281.jpg (http://www.putfile.com/pic/8250374)

The plastics are now painted all black with no stickers. It looks 100% better now

The color needs to be seen in person. Its actually black, with a ton of tiny red flake. The red anodizing matches perfectly. It turned out a little more reddish than I had expected, but I'm happy with it. I have about 6 more nuts/bolts that need chromed and I have a few more billet pieces that need anodized.

The motor is on first bore, ported mid/top 4-mil stroker, 38 A/S.

I think I'm gonna agree with havinnoj, I think sand bikes need some paint. I am going to paint the plastics/ seat within a year or so.. It's been a tough decision because I'm scared how it will hold up, but I've come this far...

I am finishing an 86 right now that will be my play bike.

I am going to do a frame up on my wifes 86 next year.

Hey Boomport, that's a sweet duner. I see you're running 9 paddles, what's all done to the engine?

mcboomport
09-18-2008, 05:43 PM
First bore- Just mid-top port and 4mil stroker-38 a/s carb, lightened flywheel.

When I bought the bike, the motor just had clean up porting, stock carb, had K&N, V-force reeds, Paul Turner pipe (dented by the frame, eventually had a huge crack at the frame mount) and had 10 paddles.. It was retarded to ride... haha. I immediatley sold the tires, and I tried some 8 paddles and could not stand them either!! I don't know what it was about the 8 paddles.

Before I rebuilt the motor, I put the 38 a/s on, lightened the flywheel, and bought the 9 paddles. If you kept the R's up and dumped the clutch, It would launch very good, but the bike just didn't have enough power. I would have to feather the clutch and downshift a lot when hill climbing.

With the new motor the R's stay up very easily and it has a great amount of power for not being a big bore. I have only had the bike out once this year, and had some motor problems right off the bat, but the 9 paddles seemed to work great. I will give you more input when I take the bike out again.

Hey Norcal, thanks for the compliment. I deffenitly ride Dumont. Ill be out there Oct 3-5, and 31-2 for halloween. I have noticed there's less 250's out each time I go, most are jumping on the 4poke bandwagon. I have a yfz but I rather ride my R. You have any dates penciled in for this season?

Hey Troy, that's a trick looking R. The black beadlocks set it off nicely. Good work!

They are standard travel plus 2's with 4-1 rims. If you are interested in the front end, I would sell them with the shocks. I have a set of LT Laegers that I would like to put on the bike. Just need money to get some shocks.

Let me know.

Heres a picture of my 86 that I ended up getting from a dude who owed me some cash. I figured I’d tell you guys the story of how I ended up with this thing, cause its kind of interesting. (I am almost completed with the build, So I’ll post new pics soon)

The bike was bought on EBay for 2500 bucks. It came from Ohio, and some guy’s 12 year old son drag raced it. He was selling it cause he had a bunch of banshees, and wanted his kid to race banshees.

The bike was a disaster, but had some decent parts on it. The motor was a 330 ESR (polished) , drag tranny with a Mikuni Carb, Antifade hub, Douglas wheels. Nice seat cover, so one so forth.
It had some crazy wheelie bar welded to the aftermarket 88 swingarm which created some cracks on the top of it. The axle was a DuraBlue that was cut about 3 inches on each side and the stock rear hubs drilled out and welded on the axle!
The tires were some strange balloon paddle type that looked straight out of the seventies.
The rear shock was toast!! I think the front shocks were off of a banshee.
The frame was cracked to the max! It had some gussets that were booger welded together at one time, some strange motor mounts on the lower chassis. It had no headstay. It also had some square foot pegs welded on, with some 3/8” solid steel welded from the end of the square foot pegs to the subframe. The carb was connected the air filter by a piece of round rubber tubing and duct tape (this will come into play a little later in my story).
SO… I helped my buddy get the bike to a decent rideable state (new rear shock, new axle, bunch of other parts), but in the mean time, he’s buying crap that he shouldn’t have been worrying about. chrome a-arms, 400Ex billet front hubs, polished gas cap, ect.. I kept telling him I wouldn’t ride the bike without an air boot, but I guess I didn’t make it clear enough….
The bike’s second dune trip to Florence; duct tape ripped, sand went in motor, motor went poof.

Ok, now it gets interesting. The guy is getting back into coke, losing his house, losing his car.

The guy then owes me some money at the time. (about 2,500 bucks for a car we bought from him (that’s another story)) So instead of paying his buddy, his house payment, or truck payment, he decides to completely tear the bike down. He took the frame to a fabricator. New gussets, custom headstay, new tubes in the lower chassis, the works.
He spent over a grand on the frame!!
He couldn’t afford to get the frame back at first cause he had no clue how much it would be and he had no money. The fabricator must have threatened him a few weeks later, cause he came up with the money some how. THEN, he started powdercoating a bunch of parts, bought a stainless steel bolt kit, you get the idea.

He also took the motor to have it rebuilt. 1200 bucks. He had absolutely no money at this time. (This was about 6 months ago, so I don’t even know if the motor is still there).
Then he lost his house, got his truck repoed, ect.
I then make a deal with him that if he gets me the bike I will wipe out our debt. I would put the bike together for him, let him ride it, and even let him buy it back when he gets to that point. But, he didn’t get me the motor…He was missing parts that I had to track down, and when I asked him to get some parts, he said “It’s your bike”. He was right, #$%@ him. It is my bike.
So I took it upon myself to get this pile of fourwheeler parts together, sell a few parts and get a motor, and a few missing parts from the bike. I’m not sure if I made out on the deal or not, I had to do a lot of work, lot of searching, ect, Either way, I’m psyched. I’ve got 3 R’s now, and this actually wont be that bad looking of a bike. (except for maybe the out of control looking plastics, haha)

how much are they? i've never heard of them? how do they compair to elka, pep, axis those shocks?

Wanna250r
11-11-2008, 08:18 PM
They are great.. mine is about 20 inch of long in the front, fully fully ajustable, big gaz tank.. you can take off huge and long jump and get a smooth landing
I never saw a blowed stadium shock :p

my opinion:
---> better than pep,works,axis,ohlins ...
---> barely the same as elka LT
---> not better than fox shock (for mx racing)

The rear caliper almost lines right up. The mounting holes are about 1/4" closer together than the 250r. I just drilled a new hole in the front part of the caliper plate to accommodate it. I also made an adapter plate for the master cylinder foer the same reason.

Most people use a hosting site and just put links to get more than one pic, but if you delete the pics from the hosting site they get deleted here so sometimes it's better to host on this site, unless you want big pics.

I have no idea what type of cylinder it is?
hopeing some one would have an idea
It is the same displacement as my ESR 310 72mm
but is nikislled and has more ports
What ever it is it puts out 56 rear wheel HP
and smokes my 450r and YFZ450

Thanks for the info on pics, I am not internet savy but hope to learn soon.

Thanks james

I'd say it looks like a cpi sphynx.

I was on the phone with them finding out about their cylinders and asked about powervalves and that is what I was looking for.

Could you do me a huge favor and talk to whoever you got the machine from or dig up as much info about that as possible and pm me about it.
