You can mount them either way, but if you look at powermadds that are mounted the opposite way they tend to sag more and don't sit as straight (in my experience and in pictures of other quads I see). I've mounted them this way on the last three quads I've had and they work better for me, but it's personal preference I guess.

i have seen those before on 400ex's but never on a 250R. I think that it is a kit that is sold on ebay if i am right. I guess is it would give you the extra width without paying a huge amount for better aarms and shocks.

looks like that diamond J kit, the people that have them like them and the people that dont call them crap and unsafe etc. etc.

im not crazy about how it looks but personal preference is what keeps our atv's from all looking the same

look how many 250r's are on this thread alone they all look a little different but they all look cool

OUCH !!! the a arm looks like it could have gone ugly

what is that on the body frame
restoring an old vette ? 67 maybe ?

BKex
02-17-2008, 07:59 AM
The arms are frontline performance. I was lucky i was going slow when it happened.

Ya thats a 67 my dads doing for a customer
4th one off the production line going to be a red on black big block side pipes

He already did the body work for the 2nd car produced red/black small block which technically is now the first since the first one is destroyed. Its going to be a big $$$ money car, was insured for 500,000 in extremely rough shape.

Is the subframe bent or tweaked? It looks like it sits low on the left side.

BKex
02-17-2008, 09:28 AM
Ya the subframe is kind of tweaked Hit the grab bar on the pavement doing a 5th gear wheelie. Ended up bending the subframe, axle, and steering stem, ripped the stock seat cover pretty good, and 13 stitches in my hand and a lot of road rash on my arm

I've had some pretty good road rash on my back/shoulder but that looks like it hurt...that was actually a pretty clean looking cut even though it looks kind of deep. I assume you had a brain bucket on.

BKex
02-17-2008, 09:56 AM
The hand didnt really hurt too bad, a little bit deeper and it would of cut through my tendons. The road rash killed. You can bet I had my helmet on tho.

X2 along with redrider... and i dont know what a "realy quad" is... but I enjoy my R just fine, beating banshees that have more money into them and bigger engines.... but i guess I'll just ride my ****tys (whatever that means) and watch people who ride "realy quads"... but thats just me
...and i'm not bashing the Banshee. I like them but dont ever talk bad on a legendary quad!

honda sure did mess up...................

built the only quad in history to "appriciate"
(15 years later, they where still worth new quad prices)

every mfg has coppied the geometry (best handleing atv ever)

won every type of race from amatures to pro's

the real mess up was in 89 when they stopped making it

I was wondering why ive been having so many e-mail notices for the Show off your 250r post?lol
This guy is tryin to compare a a lt 250, blaster and a banshee to the almighty R?

While i do somewhat admire the Banshee motor, All three of these quads are POS compared to any year 4-trax 250r!

I remember back in 87 or so when the blaster first came out it was being advertised in dirtwheels for 1899.00 out the door!
And boy the saying was true that you get what you pay for!

All i can say is atleast this kid or his parents were smart enough to get him a Honda!!!!

ok hes prolly just doin it to get some people lookin at him even tho hes makeing a huge dumbass of him self on this site for that.
but anyway to what im gonna say,
when my buddy had his 250r i loved that thing it was mostly stock but it flew. then he got the 426EX that he has and he hated the 250r, and so i rode that beast all the time i was 14 and it was way too much power for me at the time and then all said they hated it and all that and i loved it i tried to talk my folks in to gettin it and have me pay them back but that didnt work, now my other buddy has about 4 250rs and i love goin over there to help him with them, they have the be the fasted, best handling, and easyest to work on and tear motors apart on, and have HUGE power with the right set-ups,

sonny im on a blaster and no matter how hard you push your little 250ex or the blaster(why you traded that for the 250ex i dont know) but theres no way in hell that that little thing is gonna beat a 250r. you could stroke and put a 240 top end do every thing to the motor so it would only last a week and you still couldnt beat a 250r, i think you need to put some wheeles behind your like 250ex and go up towards the 250r, and you get a shee i'll find a 250r and race you, i'll bet anything that in about every thing about a that you could thing of that the R would win besides mabie a drag with a mid set up motor but you keep them both stock motor, and only do susp. and chit like that theres not way in hell your gonna touch a R unless you can handle the SHEE like a mad man.

can we block him, mabie remove of him?

you can buy any front bumper for a Z-400, it will directly bolt up to a 250R

Thanks Bryan!
I took them to get powder coated and was turned away because they wanted me to punch out the parts that connect to the knuckle. yeah right! Thats some extra fundage! I went down to a paint store, got some paint remover. Took it down to bare metal. Went to Kraigen and got some primer and paint. Gave the arms a quick sand of 800 Grit. Primer twice, sand with 1000, paint, let dry, paint again, and walla! Aftermarket looking A Arms!
Thanks again!

Hey how about a "ATC" 250r? Spent about a year polishing striping and painting from frame-up! Built for dunes, The front wheel is a sand rail dune tire and rim, Delta froce, ported polished big bore! extended rear, if it was aluminum it was polished! I can't remember who made them; some off brand. I had to modify their mounts so they bolt up like propegs, otherwise the R's a bit cramped for a 6'2" rider.

I like it, though some mounts were omitted or mis-located and I had to get creative in a couple of places. It's also starting to crack on both sides in front of the foot pegs, but it's got a few years on it.

Even though this is pretty old, I'm pretty sure I know why they broke. It might of been caused by Hydrogen Embrittlement, This happenes when parts are chromed.

Here's an article on it. Doesn't discuss quads, but it's still true.

Keep an eye on the steering stem bearing mount for cracks where it welds to the frame.

I actually had a kid ride up to me on a 250R, and ask me if mine was one.

Apparently, he hadn't had it for very long.

That is pretty cool you got the OEM hood and light on that baby. Hold on to that bike! Everyone pays good money for restorations. Hopefully I will be able to build my own soon. This is as far as I got with this one, this time around. Next one will be perfect and have the OEM hood!

This is my current 1986 FourTrax 250R which unfortunetly I have for sale. Once I get back from Boot Camp, I'll build another!

Just brought her home from storage, ready to finish it up...Not much left, just install the chain, sprockets, chain slider, rear grab bar, braided lines, finish getting the shocks powder coated (you can see where i started sanding one of them and it rusted a lil bit)..Take off the back black maier plastics and put on the black full bores to match the front, install the new seat cover, put on the matching itp beadlocks/holeshots for the front, and go ROOSTIN.....................

Plus i got it out today for the first ride in quite a long time.....Tell ya what, my zilla is fast but the R is so plush in the corners, whoops, jumps actually everywhere besides a straight line...Felt great, still need to do a little fine tuning on my setup, but its like night and day jumping from one quad to the other....Glad to have it back in the arsenal........

TheNewn
05-07-2008, 03:46 AM
It's an LRD attitude all aluminum frame. Perhaps not as strong as some of the other chromoly after market frames, but of all the after markets i've seen on here, the LRD aluminums are my favorite.

How much weight difference as opposed to your other bike with the chromoly frame?

badquad
05-09-2008, 11:11 AM
I feel a big difference in just moving the quad around. I have not been able to lift it into the back of my truck yet. I will know the difference then. When I am finished I will try and get the quad on a scale.

The other quad (400EX) in the picture has a stock frame.
