Here are my 250r's why waste your time with just one!!! The green frame is a 1986 with a 1997 CR500 motor with CPI pipe, V-force 2 reeds, Coolhead. The yellow frame is a 1989 I just finished building. Its ported and polished and DG pipe. I built it for reliability. The blue frame is a 1986 that I built for my WIFE it has a 277 kit built by DAB Racing here in Utah, FMF pipe, 39mm carb, V-force reeds, Coolhead, with 400ex fenders, seat, and gas tank. The other blue frame is actually my brother-in-laws. Its an 1987 that we completely rebuilt this last winter all except for the ugly old fenders which need to be replaced. It has a completely rebuilt stock motor except for a FMF pipe and a K&N air filter.

That's a true rarity! A one owner 250R in great condition.

I looked at a completely stock original owner 89 last year, but it was rusted and beat and never taken care of. He wanted 3K but I didn't think it was worth 1k it needed sooo much.

sweet R, i see a lot of people running those grooved radials in the front. How do they handle compared to the holeshots?

moot106
09-03-2007, 08:43 PM
The groover radials are the only front tires I run. I love them. They hook up real good and last a long time. I raced 2 seasons on my blaster and 1 season on my banshee and after a lot of road riding with the banshee they was still about 3/4 tread left. I've never been a fan of the holeshots.

Yea I dont really like to see my R muddy and dirty either lol. But I just cant stay off of it, the power and handling are addicting. On another forum people were actually talking smack to me just because i take really good care of my bike by cleaning and polishing everything up after each and every ride. Ive even been accused of never even taking it out because of how it looks in the pics lol.
But here it is after this last Saturdays ride, which btw it got wrecked for the first time.

Actually it was a desert race on a canyon course where it had rained the night before. I was taking a turn at about 40-45mph and the bike just kept on going sideways eventually making it about 20 feet up the side of the canyon wall. The right front tire hit a big rock and ejected me 10 feet in the air bouncing me and the bike off of the canyon wall. Hell, I wish it was just a bush lol.

yeah when i was on my blaster last fall i was in 5 th tapped (50ish) and in the widest corner on all the trails i've rode on theres gotta be that one tree that jumps in front of me... i bent my frame in 3 or 4 spots.. i bent my steel rim all the way back to the point that it wouldnt go around... the upper a-arm was just hardly oh it... the front welds broke and i was hurtin for a long time... since then i've tamed down...

Bushwesl, that is nice! Very clean!

I like that frame gusset for the swinger bolt. Only thing I might add, and this is just my opinion, you need some polished/billet parts on the right side of your R. It looks too blacked out compared to the left side shot. Maybe a billet brake pedal, polished clutch cover, etc so it looks a little more similar.

Duncan did cut the fenders. The radiator is oem, I have an afco but it isn't installed yet.
Do you also got a laeger's protrax front end? And what colors are you gonna use?

its a leager front end with peps... but its not LT... i know that i will make the change sooner or later... but as it sits right now its the leager a-arms and i dont know if the standers are pro-traxs i think thats the Lt's only... its the one with the black plastic with the klotz sticker kit... its a few up...

I hear you about the rush...I can't wait to get my 310 kit installed. I also have to give compliments to doc's Walsh R. That thing is ridiculous!

Danhung,
You should not downplay that georgeous R you have.
800 Screws,
I live off exit 82 in Toms River we ride most Saturdays and a few Sundays. If you want to ride pm me and I will give you a cell number! Racerx573 Laeger is a great deal! When my old Walsh went back up for sale on Ebay, I gobbled it up. Never make that mistake again! I agree 2 strokes done right still rule. I have both and my ride of choice will always be the R. The 310 is one of the best power/ reliability motors out there! I ran them for years with zero issues or failures! When they got better with the new 450`s I wanted an edge therefore bigger motors.

I did a semi rebuild on it, but am building and BRAND NEW motor with a ESR310 Setup. It is going to be killer! The cases are sitting at the bike shop for me! :D I picked up an entire Hinson Clutch Setup(Basket, Hub, Pressure Plate, and ClutchPlates and Springs) for $600, this bike shop was closing sold to another owner and I guess they were cleaning out inventory. I guess I just stumbled apon a bargain.

Hey guys and gals this is my first post and i will say this is the best forum ive found yet for my most favored bike ever the 4-trax250r!Ive owned over a dozen of them but havent even touched one in like8-10 years or so!

My favorite of them all is the 88! Ive owned 89s but white plastics suck to keep clean so 88 is my fave!

I just recently bought a 88 thats very clean and i want to keep it that way but with a few mods like headpipe and silencer and a sixpack rack and front pushbar!

Well lets ee if i can add pics?

I paid 3000 bux for it and if i had found this site first i would have asked you guys what you thought first!
But since ive already bought it i wanna ask did i pay too much?
There was another 88 in the same local classifieds at the same time and he was asking 2800 and he had alot of after market mods on it too but i thought to myself do i wanna buy one thats probably been raced the crap out of and put away wet! Or buy the one I have which is pretty much mostly stock?
Pffft! the decision was pretty easy!lol

just my opinion but I dont think you got hurt on that one

someone has done a nice resore on it (or never rode it at all)

it still has the dash, key, stock exhaust etc.
not real common

get a helmet

use wd 40 or some pb blaster on it and it will clean up nice i know mine did. you will like that pipe. what kind of rideing do you plan on doing.:macho

Fordtrax
11-06-2007, 07:27 AM
Yeah i was thinking of doing the same thing that i do to the chrome on old schwinn bikes and use steel wool and wd40 but im worried it might harm the pipe.
Im planning mainly to just trail ride and hillclimb and could make do with just the silencer because the bike is too quiet but seems i got them in a package deal im gonna do my best to shine the pipe up because it does add to the wow factor when you can see the top of the motor from both sides of the bike.

More or less im just tryin to pimp my ride a bit!:o)

Ok when all is said and done im gonna need to put a bigger main jet in the carb can anybody suggest a safe size?
I plan to read plugs and adjust accordingly but what size should i start off with ?

Im going on my first ride this saturday and it will my first in almost 9 or 10 years on a 250r and the reason i know its altleast been that long is because i sold my 89 250r and stopped riding about the time the new 400ex came out .
But before i sold my 89 there was an article in Dirtwheels on how to adapt the new 400 ex plastics to the 250r and i almost did it because the white plastics on my r were shot! But i still got 3500 for it way back then !

Hey man, i must say that is the cleanest 250r i have come across yet. I cant believe you paid 3000 for that! you could VERY easily turn around and sell that for 6, maybe more! I seen 100% stock 250r's sell for 5500 easy, and yours is the cleanse ive seen yet!

In all honesty, dont go crazy with mods (boreing, gussets etc) Just do bolt ons and keep the stock stuff. You will get ALOT more money for it stock then modded.

Congrats man and welcome to the site!

Hey thanx Mean250r! And that is exactly my plan !
I want to keep it as original as possible except i want pipe silencer and frontpushbar and rear 6 pack rack grab bar.
I also plan to eventually replace everey piece of plastic with oem just because there are flaws and the plastic is 20 years old too!
I even plan to go with the original Htrack radials too!
I wished i was rich and could afford to park it but hell noooo!lol
Thanx to everyone for the compliments!
Is my bike really worth twice what i paid tho? just curious?

yes its worth that. but if i was selling that i would have 5000 or more on it. you got a good deal. i would have that in a glass case in my liveing room. but yes it is worth alot more. keep it dont get rid of it and that would go for big down the road.:macho

I don't care for AC Racing stuff. Their stuff is made for the birds!

Those foot pegs are custom made by WalshRaceCraft. Mike constructed the mounts out of chromoly tubing with a CNC'd mounting plate. The teeth are stainless steel and are removable/replaceable. They are probably the strongest things on the bike. They grab your feet and do not let go!

Thanks for the comments!

Well what I ment was that u do not have the nerf bars.....I know those Walsh pegs are strong and that makes them even more dangerous for you feet. Get those nerfs man!!!It will look even better as well!

oakwood is an old airplain hanger in spanaway washington the stuff you see hanging is insulation , kasey kaine of stock cars ran here as a kid and some of the fastest kids in the west are from this track, look on the worcsracing.com atv and look at the youth classes and you'll see washingtonians :D

what all did it take to get a cr85 motor in a r frame. what frame brackets ect..

aasco90
11-26-2007, 09:58 PM
the bottom motor mount on the r lines up with the 85 and then made front mounts and mounts in back ,i did not cut any of the stock mounts on the r , i can still go back to 250r motor just by cutting the new mounts off but this quad will be getting a 250 four stroke motor in a few years when the 250 classes start up, raptor 250 , lt 250 ect, i will take some pics of mounts.

how did the pipe and silencer mount up.;)

aasco90
11-27-2007, 07:15 PM
the pipe i had to cut and twist in two places but did not shorten or lengthen the pipe so it wouldnt change the tuning , and the kick starter when you open it to start i exstended it out 2 1/2 inches to clear the frame, and used rebal gears conversion sprockets to a 428 chain instead of 420 that come on cr85s, gearing is 13-52 and thats it and yes i was in the garage for a why'll:D but well wirth it because my son says he wouldnt sell it for a millon dollors:macho .

by the way kidsonquads.com get these quads down to 245 pounds by using a hollow axle and a no link lighter swingarm but i will use the cr500 link set up because it works so well and deal with the 10-15 pounds differents, last race out of the burm in third gear pined hit the 20 yards of deep woops and skimed across the top like a pro:macho .
