1st off - I finally got through all 57 pages of this thread and I am humbled by the builds you guys have created! There are some SICK machines on here and thank god there are still people out there, not only keeping these 250R's alive, but making them even better then the day they rolled off the factory floor.

I found this place when doing research and gathering info about these 250R quads as I am about to buy a very worn and beaten down 86 250R TRX in a couple days.

Until I get that one home I'll share a couple pics of my passion - my first generation 1982 300R ATC.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v256/SaulAce/250R/lucky13/IMG_1933.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v256/SaulAce/250R/lucky13/IMG_1937.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v256/SaulAce/250R/lucky13/IMG_1938.jpg

I built this Trike from the ground up using a combination of rare vintage parts and some newer more modern components.

*300R Hondaline engine

*Full vintage Bassani expansion chamber and silencer

*Vintage Westcoast +4 swingarm

*36mm Kehin

*Boyeson CF Reeds

*Reed spacer

*300ex hubs to widen the rear 4 inches

*300ex 9 inch wheels wrapped in 20x11x9 Razrs(summer) & 9 inch 300ex wheels with 22x10x9 '4 snow' for winter and drags.

*35 tooth rear sprocket and 12 tooth front sprocket

*85 200x front end conversion to run a more narrow front tire

and many more small mods I'm probably forgetting.

Anyways, I look forward to getting the 86TRX and hopefully making a nice looker and runner out of it too.

Nice build, it looks like a beast of a trike! Is this a stock frame? Doe you have any problems with heating issues, especially on the trails?

And also, can you post a picture with the rear plastics?

Good luck with the 86!

Thanks. It's a powerhorse. 300 2-stroke in such a tiny light frame = arm puller!

[quote]Is this a stock frame?

Yup, Stock 1982 250R ATC frame

Doe you have any problems with heating issues, especially on the trails?

Not so far. I run it really hard too. I think I have my jetting dialed in really good & use 91 octane gas mixed 40:1 with Amsoil. I try to clean the fins on the engine before and after each ride too.

And also, can you post a picture with the rear plastics?

I'll try and get one on here soon. You can see them in this video ...

Thanks - it's rough and the seller says it's 'stuck in second gear' so I guess I gotta be splitting cases. *sigh*

yeah but i gotta say there are some really stupid people out there... there was a guy i buddy of mine that got this totally pimped 400ex for hardly nothing and the guy said the trans was stuck in gear and that the head studs were junk and they were strip... so we got it home went right n to N. and we kinda had a kick out of it... pull the motor apart and the head gasket was toasted... we had to do a little work to it but nothing like they guy thought... they were huge crack heads though... i swear the one guy didnt know where the hell he was...

I hear you. I'd LOVE for this situation to be the same - hah - but my luck, won't be a chance of that. But I guess we'll see.

For a 250RTRX I *think* I'm getting pretty good deal, even if I do have to split the cases and do some tranny work. 400 bucks for the bike.

I'll know tomorrow as I will be driving down there, 4 hours each way, to pick it up - get it home and get started on this new project.

The owner told me it runs like a champ. We'll see.

I have some pics, but I'm almost ashamed to post them because the poor thing looks so damn rough. lol.

where at on the frame did you have to mess with for ? what the pipe ?

Motofool250r
07-17-2009, 07:48 PM
no, the pipe was modded to be inframe, were redoing the motor mounts, made radiator mounts, n someone cased a jump hard n bent the crossmembr under the engine so we massaged it back to normal n made it use both style of motor mounts 86-87 and 88-89

ima have a in frame pipe as well raw of coarse and i plan on putting mine on a 1988 trx250r frame stock . is there anything i will have to do before i put the motor on or is that just your case with the aftermarket frame. so you made an outframe into a inframe pipe

the nerfs are pro armour. i like them cause of huge heel guards. keeps feet away from suckin under anything. also the nerfs go forward along frame which helps protect pipe from unwanted rocks and sticks and other stuff. Those creech graphics were on it when i bought it . i will let ya know if i find some somewheres. im amazed at everyones 250r's i just bought this one. coming from a 450r all done up. i love the looks of the r;s and its gonna take some getting used to a 2 banger again. everyone on here makes mine look like a piece and mine has 15k into it! lol. i originally bought mine to flip it and make some money. but after lookin at it i dont know if i can sell it.

I PM'd you back. Was this R, the one on Craigslist in Belton?

As far as the arms, I would guess like LSR stock replacements? What do they measure, it looks like they have heims on them. They look pretty sturdy too. I don't know if it's just the picture, but the front end looks awfly high. :ermm:

xmarkx
08-07-2009, 10:31 PM
I'm unsure of exact measurements of the arms themselves, but the front end is just shy of 50" wide, so I'm guessing +2" and they do have heim joints. I picked it up in Des Moines, IA last friday. And yes, it's a little high. I adjusted them in a hurry cause it was sagging really bad, but adjusted it a little to high.

Yeah their is Croom, lots of trails, hill climbs in the back, and some thick *** sand in the front pit. Its kinda $$$$ if you want to ride for 1 day and they charge extra for out of state riders. I could photo copy one and make a fake for a day or I can find out if they have day passes. Let me know I might can go ride with you this Sat.

Nice r the hipers really did alot! One question why didn't you trim the rear fenders so they are above the heal gaurds? One way or another it's nice....

BRAND NEW FENDERS. USUALLY THEY SIT IN FRONT BUT WHEN I RIDE THEY FLOP TO THE BACK. IDK. MIGHT PUT A ZIP TIE TO KEEP EM IN FRONT.

Well I feel like I can post mine here now since she is complete enough to post a couple of good pictures.

She is an 86 frame with an 86 motor. Log rod in it. Lots of little parts made in my garage. Frame beefed up. And most all of the normal little mods just about everyone does. Built her just for the fun of the build and to be a fun play and trail ride.

Got my new 250R stickers on her now. I need to update these pictures. It looks a lot better with out those cheap stickers.

are those split hubs? with a nut on the end?!

rigger
09-05-2009, 07:46 PM
If you are talking about my rear hubs, yes they are split. They slide on and have a pinch bolt on them and the outside axle nut. I think they are old Lone Star hubs. Not 100% sure.

woodsracer144

any change you would be willing and snap a pic and then tak the hub off for me... i;ve never seen this set up before... are they splined?

Yes they are splined.

Found my old post from a while ago about them. There are pictures of them there.

Finally snapped some pics of my project. Its a 86 Hopefully ill have her done in the next month or 2. Just got the suspension rebuilt and new bearings all around.

Most of the Powdercoat is done. Still need to have my wheels (these arent the ones that go on it just there to move it around the garage) and nerfs and few small things either anodized or PC. Its lime green candy over white (looks sick in sun) and satin black on other parts. Im going to do the engine cases black when the engine needs redone but its still fairly fresh so leaving well enough alone.

Im hunting for black or silver fenders a +1 or 2 stem and oversize radiator then i should have all the parts just some more color and put humpty back together :)

No, there is no riding areas.....well unless you have a 4WD quad, and drive a max a 10mph. I live on the outer banks of NC, thats over 150 miles of beach and no designated riding area.:( If you so much ride over a sand dune........probably get jail or community service.

I was looking through some old pics of my last 250r and came here to see what pictures I had posted incase I didn't have them saved anymore and I noticed that the site I used to host them doesn't have them anymore. So here are some pictures of my last 250r from page 93 of this forum.

Ok, I WILL :p

I had no time to go during sept and oct!! I worked all 4 months of riding season 7 days a week. Just making up for lost time. Got to justify having these things ya know.

Next spring we will have to plan a big trip with all the R' guys in the area.

Don't be fooled, sand is hard on all moving parts. It also takes some pretty good cleaning to get the sand out of all the places it shouldn't be.

Well Dan, that's a funny story.
I bought this bike knowing it didn't run. The guy thought it was a no spark problem.
Well that wasn't it. It was more the 50psi that was the problem.
Got the new piston the other day. Now waiting on the rebore. Then we'll see how it rides.
I'm counting the days for the next sand trip. As of now we're looking at the weekend after Snake Weekend.

What are you doing in April??

It's a b1tch when you lift it - get it on some fresh powder - think you have it go to go, jump on and gas it and the whole rear drops down into the powder again. lol

I think a bunch of people have had problems with ESR's new pipes turning blue and it's due do the poor quality of the chrome.

ridered250R
12-14-2009, 09:21 PM
I have no clue why it turned blue, that was a brand new pipe, then went to glamis and it turned blue. I have called ESR twice and told them but they won't do anything, I wasn't very happy with them, but I guess that's how you learn. I couldn't believe it either.

its a heat trasfer mark... when you heat up metal it turns colors... i have a LRD thats like a noce golden color when i ride it...

your crome didnt sit right or else you had that baby really really hot!

i personally like the different color pipes... like the Pc factory where you can see the welding makings from the heat... thats why i had my pipe turn color when i ride it...

You can get that blue off. Get some "turtle wax" brand aluminum/chrome polish. It comes in a black bottle, use your powerball and it will come off. I used it on mine, and after a while it did turn blue again, but, I didn't have to do it again until after a few rides.

I don't think the ESR pipes are triple chromed. They look more like nickel to me. But, they do perform nice.
