Josh Frederick Interview
::Continued::
ATVriders.com:
What offer workout equipment are you using
to stay in shape?
Josh
Frederick:I
have a total gym set up specifically for people
in wheel chairs. I can do a wide range of
exercises with it from lat pulldowns, bench
press, butterflies, and curls. It does a lot
of different workouts. It's really cool to
have, so I can continue to work out and stay
in shape.

ATVriders.com:
Tell me about this special bicycle that you
have that you pedal with your hands.
Josh
Frederick: It
is a hand-cycle. I rode one when I was in
the hospital and I really liked it because
I used my bicycle a lot when I was training.
It's good therapy for me. I can get out on
the open road and listen to music or just
think and I'm gone for a couple hours. I love
getting out and getting exercise. Hoping I
can maybe take that more serious next year
and maybe get into that type of racing. Hopefully
I can be competitive in it and see where it
goes from there.

ATVriders.com:
I saw the chair outside with tracks on it.
What is that machine called?
Josh Frederick:That'
the Action-Track chair. I was lucky enough
that Scott Kiger from Coastal Racing hooked
me up with that to go hunting with him. Not
only have I used it for hunting, but I use
it every day around the house because I live
in the middle of the desert. It's good because
I don’t have to use my wheel chair to go through
the rough stuff. I can use it to enjoy things
with my family out in the dirt and rocks.
It adjusts so I can climb hills and the seat
will stay upright or level, so I never feel
like I am going to tip over in it.

Josh
Frederick has an Action Track chair with
tracks, which allow him to go nearly
everywhere, which he couldn't do in
a regular wheel chair |
ATVriders.com:
You had the chance to go hunting in Colorado
with Scott Kiger. How was that?
Josh
Frederick: Scott hooked me up again. He hooked me up
with the track chair and brought me out to
Colorado with my Dad. We hunted elk, mule
deer, and antelope. I was so happy that I
decided to go because we had such a good time.
Being able to spend time with the guys from
Coastal and being there with my Dad was a
lot of fun. I was glad I had the opportunity
to do it.
ATVriders.com:
Can you use that chair to get around at the
tracks?
Josh
Frederick: Yeah I took it up to a "ride-day"
that we had at Ironmine Raceway (Utah) and
I used it all weekend. I was even able to
go out on the track and watch my son race
and I could go back and forth it was a really
cool deal.
ATVriders.com:
How was the event at Ironmine?
Josh
Frederick: The Hansen's at Ironmine Raceway put that
on for me and they did an excellent job. We
had a good turn out and the event was awesome.
They are talking about possibly making it
an annual event, so hopefully we can build
it up and turn it into a huge fun deal for
everybody.
ATVriders.com:
Your son got to race at the event?
Josh
Frederick: Yes, Gavin got to ride it was his first race
and he rode a DS90 that we have. He had a
great time. Ever since then he's been telling
me that he wants to start racing all the time
and that he needs a faster four-wheeler, so
I don't know if it was a good thing or a bad
thing to bring him to the races, but it's
fun to see him get excited about it.
ATVriders.com:
Do you still have an MX track from when you
raced?
Josh
Frederick: Yes, it kind of gives me something to do.
We also have a swimming pond near the track.
I'll go up there and change it up and do some
track grooming and there will be some local
guys that will go there and train on it. Maybe
I can turn it into something where I can do
some training schools. Its fun, along with
tinkering in the garage, I have to find things
to keep me busy and keep my mind off things.
It will just get better with time.
ATVriders.com:
I heard you were building a couple race quads.
Josh
Frederick: Yes, I bought a couple stock DS450s a couple
months ago because I really needed a project.
I have a lot of spare parts from over the
years from racing, so I plan on building them
into race machines.
