Polaris RZR 4 800 Robby Gordon Edition SxS /
UTV Review
::Continued::
The folks at Polaris Industries
were kind enough to let ATVRiders.com get our
hands on one of the RZR four seaters to test
out. Since the RZR is right at home in the dunes
and desert, we decided that we would have none
other than 2009 WORCS Pro Champ, Beau Baron
and his buddies, Joe Messineo, Greg Glynn and
John Harris have at it, since they are perfectly
located in southern California and has ample
access to the desert, dunes and even the track
at any given time.

One of the first things we noticed
about the Polaris RZR 4 800 was the styling
of the machine. Based on the same good looks
of the Polaris RZR 2-seater, we were not disappointed
in the appearance of this machine and its eye-catching
black and red color scheme. “It has a
real sporty and aggressive look to it. I think
it looks great,” said John Harris, who
is new to the whole test riding experience.
The RZR 4 800 comes standard with
a liquid cooled, EFI 4-stroke, two cylinder,
760cc high output engine that has plenty of
power. Even with four adults on board. The RZR
pulled hard and never seemed to bog down. The
throttle response was instant, yet smooth and
steady and didn’t feel jerky or hesitate.
“We’re all pretty good sized and
it seemed to have plenty of power, even with
all four of us guys in there,” stated
Joe Messineo.

Even
though the Polaris RZR 4 800 Robby Gordon
Edition UTV weighs in at 1,255 lbs,
which is still lighter than many two-passenger
SxS & even with the extra weight
and extended wheel base, the RZR 4 is
still capable of catching some air even
with four adult passengers |
The handling of the Polaris RZR
4 800 is where this unit really shines. The
dual a-arm set up offers 12 inches of travel
in both front and rear, giving it a plush feel,
even in choppy conditions. “I’ve
taken the RZR out to the dunes at Pismo, the
desert, and even the track and the handling
is great. I was really surprised by how well
it handled under aggressive conditions and with
several riders on board. I thought it would
be a little sluggish, but it had plenty of power
and the handling was really good, even when
I really got on it. It can take anything I can
dish out when I’m riding aggressively,
and it’s a nice smooth and plush ride
when I’m just cruising around with my
family. It’s really a well-rounded machine
in that respect,” stated Beau Baron
