Mesquite, Nevada - The DWT World
ATV Motocross series made its debut this past weekend
in Mesquite, NV. The series debut featured back-to-back
rounds with Can-Am Motoworks’ Chad Wienen
taking the overall pro win for round one and Baldwin
Motorsports’ Josh Upperman claiming the win
for round two.
The DWT World MX series is set up similar in
format as the AMA ATV Motocross Championships
with time qualifiers and two 25 minute, plus two
lap motos. The extended motos are new for ATV’s
and many racers like the idea. “It gives
us an extra three to four laps to better our positions,
which can be a big difference for us,” stated
Chad Wienen.
Despite high anticipation for this new series,
the turn out was rather small with only eleven
pros on the starting gate. “I think the
turn out will be better at Glen Helen because
it is after the holidays and Glen Helen usually
gets a lot more racers showing up,” said
Yamaha’s Dustin Nelson.

Motoworks'
#44 Chad Wienen |
Now after the first two rounds, Can-Am Motoworks’
Chad Wienen has the points lead after taking the
round one win and hanging on for a hard earned
second place in round two. “Every thing
went really well for me out there in the first
round. My Can-Am was running good and the track
was good. I didn’t have any problems, but
round two was a little different story,”
said Wienen. “In the second lap of moto
two on Sunday, I came off this triple, caught
a rut, and ended up going over a berm and into
the mechanic’s area. Luckily, I didn’t
hit anyone, but I also got caught up in some banners
and it took a little while for me to get untangled
from those, so I fell back a few spots,”
Wienen explained.
Despite his unfortunate experience at round two,
Wienen had good things to say about the series.
“This is really a good series and I am looking
forward to the rest of the rounds. It’s
great practice for our team and helps keep us
in race mode. Plus it would be cool to win a championship
in the off season,” he added.

Baldwin's
#20 Josh Upperman |
Baldwin Motorsports’ Josh Upperman made the
trip from Ohio to take part in the first two rounds
with much success. Upperman looked fast and consistent,
as he took third overall in round one and the overall
win for round two. Upperman’s strong showing
has him sitting in second place in the points chase,
only two points behind Chad Wienen, however, Upperman
will not be in attendance for all rounds. “It
seems like a great series and I hope to see it get
bigger because I really had a lot of fun. I wish
I could make all of the rounds, but I will only
be able to run a few select rounds because of how
the economy is right now,” said Upperman,
who plans to be at rounds five and six.
