The track was an interesting mix of dry dust and man made mud. The track crews attempted allow better visibility on the track by heavily watering sections throughout the race. Record high heat was also a factor, and ultimately WORCS decided to shorten the race to one and a half hours for the safety of all the racers.

Baron was third off the start and quickly began to pressure the leaders, the dust was powdery and gaining a clear track was key to success at the race. Baron soon moved into the number two spot and began to pressure David Haagsma for the lead. He trailed his teammate for four laps, even turning the fastest lap of the race on lap three, a quick 09:36.378. Baron was able to take advantage of Haagsma on a corner on lap five and charge away with the lead.
