Maxxis' #422 David Haagsma placed second at Honolulu Hills. Haagsma also sits second in the WORCS Pro Points |
“My Honda started first kick and I used my Curtis Sparks Racing engine to get the Holeshot I powered right by everyone. I took off and tried to go as fast as I could. I knew it would be really dusty and muddy and getting out front was crucial. Once I saw Beau (Baron) in second I started rolling as fast as I could to get away from him. He eventually got on my bumper and get by me in a corner. Then I knew third place was far behind me and rode my own race and settled with second. Going one two isn’t bad, I don’t like getting second all the time, but I’ll take it for this weekend,” said Haagsma of his race.
Despite losing the lead, Haagsma kept up a staggering pace and crossed the checkers over two minutes ahead of third. His consistency has given him a strong hold on second place in the championship chase.

Yamaha's #94 Dustin Nelson rounded out the WORCS Pro Podium in third |
Yamaha’s Dustin Nelson earned his best finish of the season by rounding out the top three overall. Nelson was second off the start and charged behind Haagsma; he quickly ran into an issue when his seat popped off on the motocross section. He was forced to pull over and fix it, in the process Baron and much of the Pro field was able to get around him.
Nelson was forced to put on a hard charge; he had dropped to eighth position and had a lot of time to make up. Nelson fought through the dust and made smart passes on much of the field, with two laps to go he needed just one more pass to take a podium spot. He was able to use the hot pit section to his advantage and take over third.

DWT's Dustin Nelson airs out his Yamaha YFZ450R at Honolulu Hills. Nelson sits third in the WORCS Pro ATV Points Championship |
“I had it in my mind that I would push hard to the end. I was hoping someone would break in the heat and I would be able to capitalize on it. I was lucky enough to get back to third. I passed Robbie (Mitchell) out on the track and then passed Row. It was tight and you had to follow them and wait for the opportunity. The dust and mud made passing very hard. I knew the pits and motocross track were my best options for passing and really tried to plan my moves around them,” explained Nelson of his race.

Yamaha's #417 Josh row placed fourth on his Yamaha YFZ45R ATV |
Josh Row put in a solid fourth place ride on his FOX / Walsh Race Craft Yamaha. Row had a mid-pack start was in fourth place at the end of lap one. He chose to pit early in order to capitalize on the shortened race format, but the plan didn’t work out exactly as he planned. He dropped to six on lap three after his pit, but was able to work back to fourth on lap four. He began to battle with Nelson and Dillon Zimmerman for the final few laps and finally settled back into fourth.
Row seemed happy with his fourth place finish; he had suffered a wreck last weekend and is still on the mend. “Last weekend I had a pretty bad get off and bruised my ribs. They still haven’t healed so with two laps to go I started to make mistakes and I ended up losing a position. The heat added to the roughness of the track; the canyons were the worst. It was like breathing in fire as I rode through them,” said Row of his race. Row currently holds fifth in Pro ATV points.
