#314
Jarrod McClure took over the 2nd Spot in
the 7th lap |
Jarrod McClure, who is only in his second GNCC
season as a Pro ATV racer, came off the line in
8th place, but by the fourth lap, McClure worked
his way up into the 4th spot behind Nelson. McClure
followed Nelson for a couple of laps before he
was able to overtake the Yamaha rider in the woods
and began his pursuit of 2nd place Beau Baron.
McClure didn’t have to wait long for an
opportunity presented itself.
Baron, who had a front of the pack start and
has been giving Josh Frederick a good challenge
in points all season long, suffered a broken ball
joint just before passing the white flag. Baron
was forced to pit to fix his quad, which cost
him a couple of minutes and his 2nd place position
as he dropped back to take a 4th place finish
after a dramatic last lap charge to over take
both Eichner & Mitchell.

Racing's Beau Baron made an incredible come
back in the final lap to pass both Eichner
& Mitchell, which has him tied in points
with Dustin Nelson for 2nd Place in points
with 103 points each |
Jarrod McClure rode the last two laps unchallenged
in second place all the way to the finish line.
“I didn’t really know what to expect
when I came out here, but I had a lot of fun and
it feels great to be able to come out here and
race with some of the best riders on the west
coast,” said McClure.
Jarrod’s appearance at the race created
a lot of talk among racers, but his set up on
his quad created quite a stir in the pits as well.
The fact that Jarrod was not using any nets in
his nerf bars was brought up to WORCS officials,
but the concerns were dismissed. “I don’t
even use nerf bars on my Honda in the GNCC,”
stated Jarrod, who did pass the required tech
inspection, without the nerf bar netting, prior
to being allowed to race. Just for the record,
WORCS rules do state that nerf bars are required
on all ATV’s, but they do not specify that
netting in the nerf bars is mandatory. According
to Sean Reddish, nerfs are only required to keep
the quads from connecting and getting stuck together
out on the track, and it is up to the rider’s
discretion as to whether or not they decide to
use nets.
