#70
Brandon Smith watches as the Motoworks team
tries to figure out what brought the DS450
to a stop |
Just a few turns onto the motocross section, Tim
“TPQ” Shelman’s Honda TRX450R
came to a stop when his stator went out, sending
him back to the pits. Just a few feet away from
Shelman was Can-Am/Motoworks’ Brandon Smith,
who also had his DS450 cut out on him as well. Smith
pushed his disabled ATV back to the pits where the
Motoworks crew and Mark Holz of Holz Racing worked
feverishly to get the #70 quad back on the track,
but after almost a half hour of wrenching they were
still not able to get the problem fixed and Smith
was forced to sit and watch from the sidelines.
“At least Josh and Dillon are doing good,”
said a disappointed Smith in support of his teammates.
Shortly into the first lap, Josh Frederick made
the pass on Dustin Nelson and quickly began to
pull away from the rest of the field. Beau Baron
on the #549 Suzuki soon followed Frederick’s
lead and also got around Nelson, who was not feeling
100% after a couple of recent crashes that have
left him battered and sore.

When
Motoworks / Can-Am's Josh Frederick came
through the obstacle in the 2nd lap, there
wasn't another racer in sight behind him
till he was nearly through the section when
Beau Baron appeared running in the 2nd spot |
Yamaha's
Dustin Nelson rounded out the top 5, but
he was feeling the pressure from Suzuki
mounted Jarrod McClure, but Nelson was able
to hold off McClure for several laps as
they worked their way through through the
pack |
Frederick took advantage of his lead position
and checked out. In the second lap, Josh laid
down the fastest lap time of the race with a 10:04.
Several times during the course of the race, the
2007 WORCS Pro champ had over a one minute lead
until Jarrod McClure on the number 314 Suzuki
made his way into second place and began to gain
some ground in the 6th lap, but Frederick put
the hammer down and once again brought his lead
back up to over a minute. Frederick went on to
take the win, and increase his points lead. “I’m
really happy about how things went out there today.
The DS450 worked great and I felt really good,”
said Frederick.

Amazingly,
Robbie Mitchell was able to charge his way
through the pack, and by the 4th lap, Mitchell
was up to 7th place behind Doug Eichner.
The pair would battle for the final six
laps of the race with the pair swapping
position multiple times as they each picked
up a position
