Doug
Eichner's second DNF of the season has him
back in 6th place in points, so the finishing
the final rounds will be critical for Eichner
to have a chance at regaining the #1 Plate
for 2009 |
In the second lap, Dustin Nelson, who claimed the
fastest lap time in the pro class with a time of
07:39.6 still had the lead, with Josh Frederick
nipping at his heals. Eichner was in a comfortable
3rd, followed by Robbie Mitchell and Mike Machado.
As racers went into the 3rd lap, Doug Eichner encountered
mechanical issues and was out of the race, which
allowed Machado to slip into 3rd.
By lap 5, Nelson was doing a great job of maintaining
the leading with Frederick in hot pursuit. Meanwhile,
the #549 Suzuki of Baron had moved up to an impressive
3rd place, followed by Robbie Mitchell and Mike
Machado who were battling back and forth for 4th
place and Brandon Smith was eagerly working his
way through traffic and had moved up to 7th, from
his last place start.

Yamaha's
Dustin Nelson rebouned from a flat front
tire to secure the 4th spot, which has him
within striking distance of the points lead
with 82 points |
Motoworks
Can-Am's Josh Frederick 14th place finish
at Hollister Hills has allowed Baron &
Nelson to close the gap in the points race
|
In lap 6, Nelson’s lead would come to an
end. “My front tire blew off the rim and
that sent me off the track into a tree,”
said Nelson, who was fortunate enough to escape
injury. Nelson’s crash allowed Frederick
to take over the lead, but that would be short
lived as well. “I was leading and then my
battery box fell apart,” said Josh disappointedly.
“I was able to get it fixed and get back
out on the track, but I was only able to get back
to 14th.” Which is where Frederick would
finish his day.

Beau
Baron's Win moves him into 2nd Place in
points with only a 12 point spread betweeen
Baron (85 Points) and Frederick (97 Points)
|
With Nelson and Frederick out of the way, Beau
Baron was in position to take over the lead and
hold that position for the final 5 laps to take
his 1st Pro ATV WORCS win. “Considering
that I’ve only been racing quads for about
5 months, it’s pretty cool!” Beau
said excitedly of his win.All though Baron may
have made it look easy, he is the first to admit
that being a privateer in this sport is a lot
of hard work. “I raced on Saturday, worked
Saturday night, then I had to be up early on Sunday
morning getting the quad prepped for Sunday’s
race. It can be really brutal being a privateer,”
stated Baron.
