Auburn, Washington - After a disappointing
round 3 in Lake Havasu, Motoworks/Can-Am’s
Josh Frederick took no prisoners in round 4 as he
fought his way through the sleet and snow this weekend
to win both the Open Pro and Pro Main event. DATS
Racing’s Robbie Mitchell also had an amazing
run this weekend as he claimed 1st in Saturday’s
Pro Production and took the podium in 2nd behind
Frederick in Sunday’s Pro main event.
This was the first time for the WORCS series
to travel to Pacific Raceways in Auburn, Washington,
which is located just 20 miles SE of Seattle.
The track featured a 1.5 mile motocross section
and several miles of tight, single-line trails
that wound through the dense woods that surround
the facility. The weekend’s event boasted
over 600 entries despite the cold temperatures
and the threat of snow and sleet that was forecast
for the region. As promised, the unseasonably
late white stuff fell, but fortunately there were
no accumulations and little impact on the track
conditions.

While
the WORCS ATV racers at Pacific Raceways
experienced snow / sleet showers through
out the weekend, the white stuff was accumulating
less than an hours drive from the track,
which is a very rare for the area in mid

As the Pro’s took to the line for Sunday’s
main event, the sun began to peak through the
clouds and temperatures began to warm up slightly.
As the flag was waved and the racers headed into
the first turn, it was the #97 Honda of Michael
Owens who edged out John Shafe and Robbie Mitchell
to get the ATVriders.com holeshot award.

As the Pros made their way into the second corner,
a huge pile up caught Motoworks/Can-Am’s Brandon
Smith, Tim Shelman, and Doug Eichner along with
a few others, which allowed local Washington racer,
Derrick Sas, to catch up to Owens and pull away
into the lead followed by Robbie Mitchell, Dustin
Nelson, John Shafe and Beau Baron. Sas laid down
an incredible first lap and was 40 seconds ahead
of 2nd place when disaster struck and Sas found
himself out of the race. “I got a rock stuck
in my rotor and it carried me over a stump and I
got stuck there,” said a disappointed Sas.
Sas’s misfortune allowed DATS Racing’s
Robbie Mitchell to take the lead and pull away.
Robbie was having an amazing run on his Kawasaki
KFX 450R despite being under pressure from Yamaha’s
Dustin Nelson.
