Racing Series ATV / UTV Race Report
Mesquite, NV - Round #2 of the
2008 WORCS series at Mesquite MX Park was filled
with plenty of action. Polaris’s Doug Eichner
claimed his first UTV Win with his modified Polaris
RZR, while teammate Angela Butler claimed yet another
Women’s A class win, but one of the most incredible
feats of the weekend was Motoworks Can-Am Josh Frederick’s
amazing comeback from last place to claim his second
Pro ATV win of the season.
The weather conditions in Mesquite were quite
mild compared to the season opener’s torrential
downpour and flooding. Even though a little rain
did begin to fall on Sunday, it was actually a
blessing in disguise as it helped to keep the
dust down out in the sandy desert section of the
track. For this round of the series there was
an obstacle course added to the track that consisted
of big rocks, logs, and tractor tires, but most
racers seemed to negotiate that part of the track
without incident, but it attracted a huge crowd
of spectators.

An
obstacle course was added to the WORCS course
for the Pro & Pro Am Main on Sunday,
and also for the Utility ATV race on on
Saturday, which proved to be fan favorite

Local
resident, Nic Granlund, finished in an impressive
2nd Place in Open Pro & also 5th in
the Pro Production |
Can-Am/Motoworks’ Brandon Smith had an impressive
win on Saturday in the Open Pro class. “I
came out of the hole in about 5th place and just
kept working my way up,” said Smith. Brandon
ended up finishing 3 minutes ahead of 2nd place
Nic Granlund and almost 4 minutes ahead of Temecula
Motorsports’ Mike Cafro, who claimed 3rd place
on the podium despite having been a bit under the
weather all week. “I’ve been battling
the flu for the past week so I didn’t do as
well as I had hoped for, but my teammate Levi (Marana)
did really well this weekend,” stated Cafro.
Marana claimed 1st place on the podium in the Pro
Production class on Saturday, followed by #549 Beau
Baron in 2nd and Robbie Mitchell in 3rd.
