New
England ATV Motocross - Amateur &
Youth Racers |
Shawn Welsh started out the 4-Stroke A Moto
One in a top 5 start behind Justin Alger, Artie
Druin, and Josh Fratus but a big break would
come for Welsh and Druin on the first lap. With
Alger taking a commanding lead into the first
turn to lead the pack out onto the sandy track
at Capeway, the other racers had their work
cut out for them to make any passing opportunities.
As the racers rounded the first option-lined
corner, it was still Alger in the lead heading
into the jump-littered mid section of the track.

Justin
Alger was off to one of his best starts
in 2010 when disaster struck as he came
up nose high off one of the largest jumps
at Capeway & came down, flew over
the bars, & skidded to a hault, luckily
he was uninjured & returned to the
race finishing in 11th place |
Welsh’s and Druin’s break came
as Alger got nose-high off the first big jump
and landed haphazardly resulting in him being
launched from his quad and creating a pileup
as his quad was stuck sideways in the track.
This crash resulted in another as Josh Fratus
hit Algers quad and flipped his in the same
spot. Welsh and Druin were able to get by and
continue on to take first and second place respectively,
followed by Joe Fratus, Scott Waters, and Brad
Burbine.

East Coast ATV's Shawn Welsh was up front
again as he went 1-1 in the 4-Stroke A
Class |
Artie
Druin was Welsh' biggest threat this past
weekend as he was just behind with a set
of 2-2 finished |
4-Stroke A Moto two was a much different story
as East Coast ATV’s Shawn Welsh grabbed
the holeshot and checked out on the rest of
the field. Following Welsh again was the Suzuki
racer Artie Druin, Can-Am racers Mark Gehring,
Brad Burbine, and Roy Lampron rounding out the
top five for moto two.
The Women’s Class was electric as well
as Angie Maher blistered off the line to take
the holeshot and the early lead. As the women
headed into the first big set of jumps midway
thru the 4-lapper, Maher got sideways and spun
her Honda ATV around allowing Laura Pilotte,
Paige Whipple, Larissa Griffiths, and Amy Thompson
to slip by.

Paige Whipple would secure the lead halfway
thru the 4-lapper & hold it until
the checkered flag flew |
#103
Amy Thompson may have came in 2nd place
but was never more than a few seconds
behind Whipple during their motos |
Then Whipple made a pass for the lead on Pilotte
and Thompson followed suit to chase down Whipple
in the final two laps. Thompson applied the
pressure to Whipple but in the end was not able
to seal the deal before the checkered flew.
The Women’s podium was filled by Paige
Whipple 1-1 in first followed by Amy Thompson
2-2 in second, and Larissa Griffiths 5-3 in
third.
90 Mod racers were heating things up as well
as David Nevrotski made his return to the NEATV-MX
series and took the Moto One win in head of
Ethan Pearson and Kellie Moran. Moto two however
was a different story as Nevrotski and Pearson
battled hard with one another amidst the sandy
soils with Pearson coming away with the victory
with a pass in only the final moments of the
last lap giving him the overall win with a 2-1
set followed by Nevrotski 1-2, and Kellie Moran
3-3.

David
Nevrotski secured the win in Moto one
of the 90cc Mod Class & was constantly
on the gas over the rough terrain of Capeway |
Ethan
Pearson may have came in 2nd place for
moto one, bu he was back for redemption
in the second moto to go 2-1 & grab
the overall win for the day |
The Next Round of the NEATV-MX Series will
be in two weeks on June 26-27th at MX207 Race
Park in Lyman, Maine. Cody Miller will surely
be looking to redeem himself further and continue
to defend his points leads in this ever changing
ATV MX series!
