WORCS MAXC Racing Round
7 Race Report
::Continued::
“I had a rough start but got going and I saw the timing board as I came around each lap and the third place rider (Weltich) was really catching me and I didn’t know I had dropped back like that, and I just knew I had to run as hard as I could on the last lap and luckily I was able to come out in second place. I want to thank Penny Pinchin’ Racing, Lonestar, Custom AXIS, MAXXIS, and my whole family for their support and coming out to watch me race,” said Humphrey.
FLY Racing / MAXXIS / ProArmor’s Tyler Weltich had a horrible week leading up to this event with his quad being stolen previous to the event, and with help from Mike Harden, he was able to borrow a quad for the event. Weltich got off to a mid-pack start but was quickly able to get around several racers and settle into his personal pace on his newly-borrowed quad. Weltich went back and forth on the time-table with Humphrey but was just off the pace on the final lap and slipped back to third place overall, which was still a great podium finish for the young racer.

Tyler Weltich overcame his set back of having his ATV stolen the week prior, Weltich came back with a borrowed ATV and landed on the overall podium in third, which is very impressive considering he races in the B 15-21 class!

“It’s hard, I got my quad stolen and it’s taken a bit to get used to this machine but we made it work out there. It was super close with my 14:39 lap time, I was 11 seconds ahead of Humphrey and then got into lappers and I really wanted to get an overall but on the last lap my back brakes went out. This made it even harder but I was able to get on the podium so I’m super happy with that,” said Weltich.
In the UTV classes, ran on Saturday night, there was also some exciting racing action and battles happening in the woods of South central Indiana!

JRi Shocks / GPS Off-Road / Pro-Armor’s Jerry Boling was the winner of the UTV overall podium by coming out of the holeshot in second place and putting in a quick first few laps to get up into the front runner’s area and take over the lead. This lead came during the third lap after Boling got used to the track conditions and nuances of the tight, tree-lined course. Can-Am’s Kyle Chaney had a mechanical failure during the first lap of the contest after his clutch failed on him, forcing him to the side of the course. Boling had a clear track ahead of him for the remainder of the event and was able to remain mistake free and came away with the overall win.

“It was a really good event that the MAXC put on for this weekend and with the fresh rain we had Friday night the track was perfect for today and wasn’t really muddy or slippery. My Polaris ran great for the entire race and we didn’t have any problems and were able to get the win, I’m pretty happy with that,” said Boling.
