Surprise, AZ - Round
8 of the ITP Quadcross series was held under a nighttime
sky at SpeedWorld MX Park in Surprise, AZ. The competition
in this series has been heating up with only three
rounds left in the season. The Open Pro class was
full of excitement as top National Women’s
racer Angela Butler made an appearance and stole
the holeshot in both motos, and showed the boys
she meant business by taking 1st place overall.
In the Pro Class, Josh Creamer was busy making an
impressive showing, taking the first position on
the podium in his first night race.
The track was well lit, and the nighttime moisture
in the air helped make the track a little tackier
and kept the dust down. “The track was in
good condition.” Said Suzuki/Yoshimura’s
Kory Ellis. “The dirt was pretty tacky for
the most part, but it was watered just before the
first moto, and it looked a little slick in some
spots so we narrowed up the bike a bit to get better
traction.” Ellis’s modifications put
him in second place out of the hole, right behind
Kawasaki’s Josh Creamer.

Grabbed the Holeshot |
Creamer stayed in the lead during the first moto
until he went off the track during the second
lap. “After I went off the track there was
quite a battle between me, Ellis, and Schell.”
Said Creamer. Josh wasn’t the only one who
ventured off the track; Ellis overshot a turn
in the second lap also, allowing Jeremy Schell
to slip into second place, until the 5th lap,
when Jeremy ran into problems with his Honda.
“I had just passed Kory a couple laps earlier
and was in second until I threw the chain in the
5th lap.” Said Schell. Jeremy was able to
pop the chain back on and finished in 7th place.
Ellis came in second behind Creamer, who had fought
his way back into the lead.
When the gate dropped for the second moto, it
was Team Green’s Creamer, who once again
took the holeshot with Ellis hot on his heals.
Schell got a slow start off the line and worked
his way up to 3rd place, but wasn’t able
to hold onto his position and finished in 5th.
“I got tired and just couldn’t hold
my position any longer.” Said a disappointed
Schell. Josh Creamer claimed the first position
on the podium with an impressive 1-1 win. Points
leader Ellis settled for 2nd, while Jeffrey Spooner
secured the 3rd position on the podium. Landon
Hurst took 4th and Jeremy Schell rounded out the
top five.

“This was one of my first night races so
it was kind of different for me, but it was really
fun.” Stated Creamer. “We were out
there having a good time and testing out a few
things on the bike for next season. Everything
worked really good and I’m glad everything
went so well.” He Said. Now that the WPSA
is over, Josh plans to attend a couple more Quadcross
races just for fun. “The next one I’ll
be at is probably the one at the 395 Raceway,
and then probably Glen Helen.” Said Josh.
