2010 Yamaha / ITP Quadcross Champion's
Dustin Nelson (Pro 450) & Jason Dunkelberger

San
Bernardino,
CA – It was a very successful weekend
for Yamaha as Yamaha/Golden West Cycle’s Dustin
Nelson claimed the overall Pro Productions win,
despite intense pressure from MCR/Maxxis Tire’s
Beau Baron, and claimed his fourth Yamaha ITP Quadcross
Pro Production Championship, while Yamaha/Golden
West Cycle’s Jason Dunkelberger would claim
the Open Pro win and championship at the final round
of the 2010 Yamaha ITP Quadcross series.
Glen Helen hosted the festivities for the final
round of the season and everyone enjoyed great
weather for the weekend with sunny skies and mild
temps, which was perfect for the BBQ and prize
give away that Yamaha had planned for everyone
in attendance.
Yamaha’s Dustin Nelson was in the points
lead going into the final round and only needed
to finish in 16th or better in the first moto
to claim the Pro Production championship, which
was probably a good thing as he would be riding
injured. However, on top of it being his birthday
on race day, Nelson had plenty of reason to celebrate
as he ended his season on a high note with a win.

As the gate dropped for moto one, on the newly
designed track at Glen Helen, Nelson was in second
behind Beau Baron, and charging hard. Nelson waited
for an opportunity and in lap two, he was able
to take over the lead, but Baron stayed with him
the entire moto. “Beau was right there and
I knew I couldn’t make any mistakes or he
would get by me,” said Dustin Nelson. Fortunately,
Nelson was able to hold off Baron and take the
moto one win.

For moto two, Nelson grabbed the holeshot, but
he had company as Beau Baron was right behind
him once again. The pair stayed close until the
final lap when Baron decided to make a move by
using one of the split lanes shortly before the
finish line. Baron caught Nelson and the pair
were side by side until just before the finish
line when Nelson would edge out Baron by a few
inches to claim the win.
