Yamaha's Dustin Nelson claims the
Round 8 Win & the 2008 Yamaha / ITP
Quadcross Pro ATV Championship |
Yamaha’s Dustin Nelson went 1-1 at round
eight of the Yamaha ITP Quadcross series securing
him the overall Pro win and the Pro championship
for 2008, but in the Open Pro class, there is
still a battle for first between Polaris/Yoshimura/Eichner
Racing’s Doug Eichner and privateer TJ Dietrich
with Eichner pulling a slight lead after his overall
win.
Round eight of the ITP Quadcross series was originally
supposed to be held at the Milestone Ranch MX
Park in Riverside, CA, but a change in venue had
racers competing at the Competitive Edge in Hesperia
instead. The track was challenging with some nice
sized jumps and technical sections, but some racers
also thought it was one of the roughest tracks
they raced on all season. However, the rough conditions
didn’t seem to bother Yamaha’s Dustin
Nelson very much. The number 94 Yamaha of Nelson
came flying off the line in moto one, grabbing
the holeshot. A pile up in the second corner allowed
Nelson to pull away, eventually increasing his
lead to over 25 seconds. “It was great race
for me, but probably not very exciting for the
fans to watch,” said Nelson lightheartedly.

Yamaha's
Dustin Nelson grabbed the Holeshot in Moto
One, but a collison between Chris Riley
& Josh Frederick caused a chain reaction
pile-up, which opened up the door for Nelson
to run away from the pack
|
The second corner pile up caused problems for
several racers including Dean Pierce, Chris Riley
and Can-Am/Motoworks’ Josh Frederick, who
is in close competition for second in the points
race. Despite getting put back to almost last
place, Josh furiously began to work his way through
the pack, all the way up to fourth place. Can-Am/Motoworks
teammate Bandon Smith, who has come on really
strong in the last couple of rounds was able to
avoid the pileup and secured a 3rd place finish
in moto one.

Near the end of the Moto, Sage Baker, Brandon
Smith, and Dana Creech were in a tight battle
for the 2nd spot with Baker claiming the
spot followed by Smith and Creech |
Justin Noss, who has had some impressive results
this year, stopped just in time to avoid the pile
up that claimed several other racers, but his
abrupt stop put him in the back with Smith, Frederick,
Pierce and Riley. Noss put his head down and began
picking off the competition one by one until reaching
fifth place.
Can-Am/Epic Racing’s Sage Baker, who just
wrapped up his season at Nationals, came out to
race at Quadcross as well. The Shasta Lake, CA native
definitely made his presence known. Baker came off
the line with impressive speed but also fell victim
to the second turn pile up, but Baker was one of
the first to get out of the mess and made an impressive
charge through the pack as he secured a 2nd place
finish in moto one.
