#97 Justin Noss grabbed the Moto 2 Holeshot,
but it wouldn't take long before #94 Dustin
Nelson began to challenge Noss for the lead |
In moto number two, it was Justin Noss who grabbed
the holeshot, followed by Reed Petchnick in second
and Dustin Nelson in third. Nelson made quick
work of Petchnick, passing him early in the first
lap to begin his pursuit of moto two leader, Noss.
“I was leading for about two and a half
laps. Dustin was right behind me and I was holding
him off, but I made a mistake and he was able
to get past me,” said Noss, who is also
in close competition with Josh Frederick and Brandon
Smith for second in the points race. Noss kept
pace with Nelson for a couple more laps before
Nelson began to pull away.

Dustin Nelson passed Noss and had clear
sailing to the checkered flag to claim the
Yamaha / ITP Quadcross Championship |
As the checkered flag was waved, Nelson’s
1-1 finish sealed the deal for him on the 2008
Yamaha ITP Quadcross Pro Championship. “Last
year, Kory (Ellis) and I were only four points
apart for the championship when I broke my femur.
To come back this year and take the championship
before the end of the series feels really great!”
said Dustin. The number 97 racer had a bout of
bad luck mid season, but Nelson’s competitive
spirit kept him going. “I had messed up
my ankle at one of the Glen Helen rounds, which
kind of held me back and affected my riding. I
was really frustrated because I felt like I should
be out there winning all of the rounds. I know
it’s not always possible to do that, but
I’m a racer and that’s what I’m
supposed to do,” Dustin stated. Luckily,
Dustin still managed to place fairly well, despite
his injury, which enabled him to maintain his
points lead throughout the season and with his
round eight win, reclaim the Quadcross championship.
Sage Baker claimed second overall with a 2-3
finish, while Justin Noss’s second moto
charge earned him third overall. Brandon Smith
ended his day with fourth overall and Josh Frederick
rounded out the top five.
