Pro National Champion
Rage ATV's Harold Goodman |
Brownstown, IL - The 2007 Extreme
Dirt Track Series has had plenty of excitement all
year long, and the final round, held in Brownstown,
IL at the Fayette County Fairgrounds, was no exception.
With Sparks Racing’s Shane Hitt coming into
the final round with a slim two point lead over
RageATV / Houser Racing’s Harold Goodman.
Both riders, along with the entire top tier of the
Pro class has been all over the points board with
four of the first seven rounds having different
winners while Goodman and Hitt were the only multiple
winners with Goodman securing three victories and
Hitt had two wins heading into the final round.
The track was an oval layout ¼ mile car
track and although short compared to most of the
tracks on the EDT circuit it challenged the riders
skills with the split lanes going through the
infield.
The final race saw only 16 entries in the Pro
class for the much anticipated final round touted
as the “Showdown in Brownstown”. The
two heat races were not a surprise as both Hitt
and Goodman took victories to set up the showdown
in the main event. The two riders were lined up
together on the front row and when the light turned
green Hitt and Goodman rubbed nerf bars and bumped
tires off the line allowing Chuckie Creech to
take the holeshot.

Goodman was able to fall in behind Creech while
Hitt was in the fifth spot and unable to get up
into the cushion in the first sweeper. Hitt was
quickly into the fourth spot behind Duro Tires
and EDT sponsor rider Zac Willett. Goodman stayed
on the grab bar of Creech through the first few
laps while they began to pull away from Willett.
It was lap eight before Hitt could move ahead
of Willett through the split lanes and by that
time Creech and Goodman were several seconds ahead
of the pack.

Goodman used the option lane each lap trying to
get around Creech but to no avail as Creech maintained
the lead. “The option lanes were really narrow
and I knew we were several seconds ahead, so I ran
the option lane that he (Creech) didn’t take
and stayed back about a bike length the rest of
the track. There was no need to get tangled up and
lose the position we had”, Goodman said. “Chuckie
had set a great pace and I just stayed behind him”
he added. |
