Elizabeth City, NC - Round 6 of the 2007
Duro Extreme Dirt Track Nationals was held at Dixieland
Speedway in Elizabeth City, NC, which is located
within a few miles of the Carolina shoreline, so
many racers make an extended weekend of it and spend
a few days at the beach, and with temperatures soaring
into the upper 90’s it was a great weekend
to being either racing or relaxing at the beach.
The 3/8 mile car track provided plenty of opportunity
for everything to open up the throttle with some
long high speed straightaways. The infield was
used at the end of the back straight with the
riders making a left hand turn into the infield
with a split lane straight going into a right
handed sweeper before another straight ending
with a left hand turn back into the front straightaway
making the track into a horseshoe shape. The track
was in great shape and was hooking up well for
the riders as there was tire rubber all around
the edges of the track on Sunday morning.
For the first time this year, there wouldn’t
be a full Pro Class with only 18 racers signing
up. With the lower rider count, the riders were
divided into 2 heats of 9 riders each. In the
first heat, Shane Hitt and Frank Batista came
off the line out front and dead even going around
the sweeper before Batista was able to pull away
down the back straight and hold on to the lead
the entire 6 lap heat race followed by Hitt and
Zac Willet.

Michael Coburn grabbed the Holeshot in Heat 2,
and was able to hold off Darin Ogden to maintain
the lead throughout the race. Chuckie Creech was
able to slip into the third spot in lap five ahead
of Mitch Reynolds. Pro points leader Harold Goodman
was in this heat but did not get a good start,
“I did not get off the line like I should
have and it cost me in the main” Goodman
said. He finished sixth in the heat and he had
to start on the second row in the main event.
