Danville, VA - The high banking turns
of Birch Creek Motorsports Complex in Danville VA, played
host to round 3 of the ATVA Duro Extreme Dirt Track National
Championship Series. With over 300 riders participating
in the race, track owner Carl Reynolds and his crew did
and outstanding job of hosting the event. From the friendliness
of his staff in the office to the efficiency of his track
personnel keeping the day moving, the staff was second
to none. While starter Gary Barnes is known for “keeping
riders off the white line” or “go to the penalty
row”, he beautifully sang the National Anthem before
the pro races on Saturday evening.
Although the track is the shortest in the series it
offered the racers an exciting evening of high banking
turns at the end of each of the straight-aways on the
horseshoe shaped layout. Riders had the option to take
the outside line(high) or the inside(low) on each of
the banking turns. Except for a brief rain shower delaying
the Friday evening practice, the series welcomed the
sunny skies and warm temperatures on race day.

The pro class saw the return of 2005 third place finisher
Darin Ogden for the first time in 2007 and KTM’s
Tim Farr returned to the Pro Am Unlimited class after
missing round 2 while introducing the new KTM 525XC
ATV to the GNCC series in Snowshoe, WV.
The Pro class continues to attract grow with 25 riders
competing in three divisions of heat races for the 20
rider main event. Second year Pros, Michael Coburn and
Zach Stanley were both heat race winners along with
Darin Ogden. Ogden’s win was not without drama
as he and Shane Hitt had a heated argument after the
race. Hitt went over the middle turn bank halfway through
the race after the pair collided. The misfortune caused
Hitt, tied for first place going into the race with
Harold Goodman, to start on the third row in the main
event after returning to win the LCQ.
