There are many historic sites of interest within riding / driving distance the Sand Hollow State Park OHV Area valley including the ruins of an old fort and dinosaur tracks that are millions of years old.

If
you follow the main dirt road in the valley
area of Sand Hollow it will lead you to a couple of historic areas including Fort Pearce and preserved
dinosaur tracks |
Starting from the tall sand washing in the Sand Hollow Valley, there is a trail that leads out into the open desert for approximately 5 miles. The open trail is a good area to test out your top speed of your ATV or SxS / UTV. The desert trail eventually turns into a dirt road and will lead you to an old cattle corral that you will pass on the way to the ruins at Fort Pearce.

It is said that Fort Pearce was built to defend the scarce water supply that flows in the creek below the fort. The only remains form Fort Pearce is the main foundation and a couple of cobblestone walls. If you walk down the riverbank below Fort Pearce, you can find many petro glyphs that were drawn by Native Americans hundreds of years ago on the cliffs that line the river.

After we checked out the ruins of Fort Pearce, we loaded back up in the Yamaha Rhino 700 SxS / UTV and the Kawasaki Teryx 750 SxS / UTV and headed back on the dirt road.
