Paunsaugunt
Plateau ATV Trail Ride Adventure
We Explore the Dixie National
Forest with Ruby's Inn Tours
Bryce Canyon, UT - ATVriders.com
continues to search out some of the best ATV / SxS
trail riding destinations in the USA and beyond,
and our latest excursion had our attentions focused
on the Paunsaugunt Plateau in the Dixie National
Forest that borders the renowned Bryce Canyon National
Park in southern Utah, about 270 miles northeast
of Las Vegas, NV.
For this trip, we decided to bring along our friends Shawn and Glenn Hess of Hess Motorsports out of Muenster, TX to check out the riding area and give us their thoughts on how it stacks up against other ORV areas.
After meeting up at the Las Vegas airport, we began our journey eastward up the I-15 through the Nevada desert, which was rather uneventful for the first two hours of driving, but once we began our ascent up the Virgin River Canyon and crossed into Utah the scenery began to change dramatically with red rock cliffs, black lava rocks, and sand dunes surrounding the town of St. George, which is where we recently rode at the Sand Hollow State Park.

Zion National Park is one of the most beautiful places on earth & is one of our favorite destinations to stop at while in Utah |
As we continued our trek northeast, we were fortunate to pass through Zion National Park, which is exactly as the name implies “Heaven on Earth.” The sheer rock cliffs and carved canyons that tower over two thousand feet above the valley floor offer spectacular views so we decided to stop and spend a little time there and take in the scenery for several hours.
After hiking several miles in the Zion NP, we worked up an appetite, and decided it was time to get back on the road. Soon after exiting the Zion NP, we noticed a herd of buffalo out in the field grazing, behind the Zion Mountain Ranch, so we decided to stop and check out the restaurant.

We chose to go with Buffalo filet mignon, which was incredible at the Zion Mountain Resort, and after diner we sat outside by the fire pit and roasted marshmallows |
We all decided on the Buffalo filet mignon,
and it was one of best steaks that I have ever
had. After dinner, we headed out the fire to roast
some marshmallows in the fire pit. For anyone
traveling to Zion NP, we highly suggest you stop
in for a meal because you won’t be disappointed,
the food and staff were great and we will surely
come back in the future.
