Wallkill, New York (1/21/2011) - While
I (Shawn Hess) was working for Blingstar at the
Tucker Rocky Summer Dealer Expo, Tucker announced
their Bikers Choice product line would be teaming
up with Paul Jr. Designs/ American Chopper show.
Paul and his crew were on hand at the show for the
big press release. While Paul was roaming the show
checking out all of the vendors products he stopped
by the Blingstar booth to learn more about the company.
Amber Roberts and I greeted Paul where I questioned
him about building an ATV. Paul expressed his interest
in an ATV build by explaining his previous involvement
in the sport.
Within the next 2 weeks Paul and his crew contacted
Blingstar about the build, and their plan to move
forward with it. After a little over a month of
planning Blingstar called and told me that I would
be the company representative going to New Burg,
NY for the filming of the show. One can only imagine
how excited I was when I heard the news! I quickly
told my family and convinced my dad (Glenn) to
join me on the trip. Dad and I have always been
adventurous when it comes to trips around the
country. Little did we know what surprises our
journey would hold.

Television show on the Discovery Channel |
We arrived at DFW airport and began the rigors
of air travel. Upon our security screening I see
dad being escorted off by two TSA agents to where
I don’t know. After 15 minutes he returned
explaining he was selected for the random strip
search! The weather conditions were turning for
the worse as we boarded our plane. While seated
in the plane the captain announced of a problem
with the fuel gauge. With our quick witted racer
mentality we called out, “fill it up and
let’s go!”. What was thought to be
a quick fix ended up causing us to deplane after
over 2 hours. Due to the declining weather conditions
we were also warned of a tornado that hit the
airport area while we waited in the plane.
We then had to figure out a “Plan B”
so we could still make it to New York in time
to film the show. We quickly learned that the
only flights left for the evening to New York
were flying into LaGuardia airport. This also
put us two hours away from our original destination.
So with that being our only option we had 20 minutes
to race across the other side of DFW airport which
happens to be larger than Manhattan Island. The
plus side to all of this chaos happened to be
getting to fly over New York City which we had
never been to.
