Can-Am / ITP / Murray Racing’s BITD Round 2 Report
Jason & Derek Murray Best in the Desert Pro UTV Racing

BEST IN THE DESERT
UTV World Championship
Laughlin, NV (2/25/2015) - Can-Am / Murray Racing’s Jason and Derek Murray braved the tough conditions at the 2015 Best in the Desert UTV World Championship in Laughlin, NV this weekend finishing another grueling Pro UTV race aboard their Can-Am Maverick Max.

Dust was a huge issue for the second round of the 2015 BITD series, and it had quite an impact on many drivers as sometimes visibility dropped to zero out on the high speed course. For UTV World Championship, a Land-rush start was a bit tricky, but the Murray brothers handled it. “The start was interesting and we had to bob and weave a bit to get out of there,” said Jason Murray.

The dust came into play almost immediately and left some competitors driving blind. “The first lap was pretty rough. There was a lot of dust. We tattooed the back of another UTV pretty good. We came into a turn and couldn’t see him and ran right into the back of him. Luckily everyone was ok, and we kept going,” said Jason Murray.

Dust wasn’t the only issue the team had to face as the course deteriorated rapidly leaving huge whoops, deep ruts and rough conditions. “It was definitely rough out there, but it was still fun and we managed to finish the race,” said Jason Murray.

The tough conditions put the team in the number 23 spot in the Pro UTV class at the checkered flag with a time of 3:15:04.769. “Our strategy was to go out there and keep a steady pace and finish the race. We are really looking forward to the Mint 400 for the next round. The longer desert races are what we are best at, so we are hoping for a win there,” said Jason Murray.
