Jeremiah
Jones Interview: Life after ATV Racing &
Future Plans
::Continued::
There
have been rumors that we would see you out
racing your Rhino soon, is there any truth
to those rumors? Can you race with the hand
controls you are using now?
The one I have now is a universal aftermarket
controller that you can use in any car or
truck or basically any vehicle that has a
gas pedal and a brake. I love them, they work
really good, but they aren’t cut out
for racing. They move around a little too
much and I have to keep one hand on the controls
and one hand on the wheel, so it doesn’t
let you have the control needed for racing.

Jeremiah
Jones operates a Yamaha Rhino UTV with
hand controls, so he can get around
the farm and the motocross track to
watch Doug Gust & Dustin Wimmer
Practice |
Dustin
Wimmer signed on with Suzuki at the
end of the 2006 season, and he spent
a fair amount of time at Jeremiah's
practicing and training inbetween races |
Your
wife Jamie is still out there racing. How
is that going?
It’s going great. I still go out to
the track and take care of her bike, change
her oil, Change her tires, clean her filter.
She says that it’s a way for her to
get away a little bit. When she’s out
on the track it kind of clears her mind for
her. I have fun being out at the track, she
has fun doing it, and I told her I would never
take that away from her. It also helps keep
racing in the family. Who knows, maybe in
a few years when Nathaniel is old enough,
he’ll be out there to.
Even
though you were seriously injured on an ATV
it’s great to see you still supporting
Jamie and possibly encouraging your son to
get out there and race as well.
It was a bad ordeal for me, but it’s
one of those things that could happen doing
anything, driving a car, even riding a bike
or skateboarding, but I’m not going
to let that stop us doing the things we love
to do or the way we live. I just want to keep
on going with the way my life is.
It’s
been said that you are going to be doing a
riding school…
Bill Balance and myself are planning on doing
several riding schools. We’re going
to start out with two or three schools per
year, and just try and build it up. It will
be great because Bill can help out with the
cross country stuff and I can help out more
with the motocross stuff. It will be something
we can look forward to in or retirement days
and be able to do something we love to do.

Doug
Gust has helped Jeremiah Jones maintain
his motocross track, and he has even
expanded it length, so lap times are
near the length of most national caliber
tracks, and it has a little bit of everything
from high speed straight-aways, triples,
doubles, and table tops.
|
There’s
a lot of knowledge and experience between
you and Bill. It sounds like it will be a
fantastic program.
It’s something that we have always wanted
to do, but just haven’t had the time
to do it. Now that it’s later on in
our careers, it’s time to do it. I like
being able to help riders and give back to
some of the people that have helped support
me through all this.

Jeremiah
will be at all the WPSA events, so be
sure to say "Hi!" |
You
truly are an inspiration to everyone. Even
after your accident you’re still out
there doing what you love to do, and we all
love seeing you back in the sport.
I love doing it! I love being able to coach
riders and help my fans and all the people
that helped support me throughout the years.
I hope to be doing it for years to come.
