Doug Gust Interview:
Pro ATV Motocross Racer >> Continued
Besides
flying and playing a little golf, what else
do you like to do in your spare time?
Doug Gust:
I like to do a little fishing, water skiing
and jet skiing during the summer. I also have
some RC cars and planes that I like to race.
In the winter I like to ride snowmobiles and
now that I have a snow machine I can make
a nice snocross track even if we don’t
get a lot of snow.

Once
the temperature drops down below 20
degrees in the winter, Doug Gust cranks
up his snow machines and builds a snowcross
track to practice on in the winter regardless
if Wisconsin gets any natural snow,
there will be snow at Doug's house,
which attracts a large crowd of snowcross
racers (Complete

Do
you do a lot of cross training on the sleds
over the winter?
Doug Gust:
Yes, I do quite a bit of training on them.
I like to have a few people over once in a
while a do a little racing with them as well
but not too many races because I don’t
think my neighbors would like that too much.
As
far as next season goes, it was recently announced
that you wouldn’t be with the Suzuki
team next season. How do you feel about that?
Doug Gust:
I can’t say I’m not disappointed.
I have been with them since 2002 and they
have always been good to me. They, like most
everyone right now, are having budget issues
and it just wasn’t in their budget to
keep me on.

Regardless
if Doug Gust races the AMA ATV MX Nationals
in 2010, he will still be flying high
either on his motocross track or in
his airplane |
Are
you still going to race for the 2010 season?
Doug Gust:
Unfortunately, I don’t have any offers
to race next year, so I guess the economy is
forcing me to retire.
If
you don’t race next season, do you have
a backup plan?
Doug Gust:
If I don’t race I do have some riding
schools and training camps lined up that I
will be teaching. Also, I am going after my
commercial pilot’s license, since I
already have quite a few hours logged for
that.
Doug,
it’s been a pleasure talking to you
as always. Whatever happens for next season,
we certainly wish you the best and do hope
to see you at the races!
Doug Gust:
Thank you!
