Bill
Ballance will finish out his GNCC racing
career running the silver 9X number
plate, which represents Bill's series
leading 9 straight GNCC Pro Championships |
ATVRiders.com:
This season you got to run a special 9x number
on your quad. How did that come about?
Bill Ballance:
It was actually because of Yamaha. I have been
involved with them for many years and won six
of my championships with them and plan on being
involved with them for a lot of years to come.
So on their end of it was more for marketing
for posters and magazine ads. It was a number
that they thought I would be able to run for
several years at a time instead of changing
numbers every year and having something different
on the quad so that it would be easily identifiable
as to who it was on the quad. It’s not
the first time they’ve done something
like that. They did that for Rodney Smith and
couple others that were known for a certain
number. I really don’t care what my number
is on the front of the quad when I go to the
races. For me it’s just to go out there
and be a part of the competition and the races.
ATVRiders.com:
Besides GNCC, you are also an accomplished
motocross racer. Any plans of racing any other
events now that you aren’t fully committed
to one series?
Bill Ballance:
Yeah, as a team I think we are going to load
up in in Thomas’s rig and head out and
do one of the WORCS races this year. Also,
the Heartland Challenge; we might put together
one or two teams for that one, but that’s
probably about it, besides the GNCC for me.

In
2010, the Yamaha / Ballance Racing Team
(Taylor Kiser & Walker Fowler) managed
by Bill Ballance claimed the GBC Motorsports
10 Hour ATV Heartland Challenge Endurance
Race Win & Ballance Racing plans
to defend their championship in 2011

ATVRiders.com:
so how has it been as team manager and going
to the races and just supporting everyone
like Thomas Brown?
Bill Ballance:I
like it a lot! Through the years of racing
I’ve done a lot of work with set up
and suspension and it is something that I
have been very hands on about in my racing
career. Being able to take that and help out
some other racers is the next best thing to
me, other than racing. I enjoy it a lot and
being a part of trying to make something better
and seeing that rider be successful, it’s
something that I just really have a lot of
fun doing.

I
would say that Bill Ballance is right
at home in his new role as Team Manager,

Taylor Kiser has had a good year, but Walker
Fowler has gone undefeated. You must be pretty
happy.
Bill Ballance:
Walker has really stepped it up and matured
a lot. He has really picked up a lot of speed
and improved a lot. He is really rolling good
out there. He’s anxious to get in the
pro class next year. Taylor has had some bad
luck; nothing that he can control. He’s
really hungry to get out there and start winning
races and I’m expecting a whole lot
to follow when he does get a win or two.
ATVRiders.com:
Thomas Brown just had his best finish in fourth
so far this season in the motocross side of
things. How has that been coming along?
Bill Ballance:
Thomas’s program started out a little
rough. We started out with some new products
that we didn’t get a whole lot of testing
on but they ran great during the testing that
we did do and we chose to go with them. We
didn’t have them fine-tuned yet, but
we do now and Thomas has been training hard
and he is not happy with anything other than
a win, and even if he was winning I don’t
think he’d be happy unless he’s
beating the whole field by a minute.
