The ergonomics of the YFX450X are the same
as the YFZ450R with cushioned side panels, and
wider, longer foot pegs for more secure footing.
The unit comes stock with Pro Taper handlebars
that are mounted on a four way adjustable system
that provides comfortable positioning for just
about any rider.

The
YFZ450X t-shaped seat is really comfortable
& allows the rider to easily switch
body positions while riding without jeopardizing
comfort |
The
extra wide foot pegs on the YFZ450X spreads
the load on your foot to reduce fatigue
& the bigger kick-ups helps keep the
riders foot on the pegs |

The
Yamaha YFZ450X comes with the best stock
suspension found on any 450cc sport ATV
within its price range. The front shocks
have extra large bodies for increased
oil capacity for improved cooling &
they are Kashima coated to reduce friction,
and for 2010 a taper has been added to
the shock body to reducing scratching |
The suspension of the YFZ450X has also been upgraded
from the original YFZ450. The new 9.4” Kashima
coated piggy back shocks are 28mm longer, 8mm
bigger in diameter and have a 2mm longer stroke
and offer high and low speed compression, rebound
and a threaded preload adjustment. For 2010, the
piston of the shock body has been tapered, where
as last year, on the YFZ450R it was not, which
caused some minor cosmetic scratches. The new
taper design eliminates scratching. The Kashima
coating that is used on the shocks reduces friction,
which increases oil life, increases durability,
improves suspension action and the new shock body
minimizes scratches.
Although the dimensions of the front suspension
are similar to the YFZ450R, the different leverage
ratios used, offer up a completely different
feeling when riding. The machine is narrow enough
to fit through the tightest trails, but it felt
incredibly stable, even in the off camber sections
of the track.
The front and rear shock combination worked
well when jumping. We decided to hit the creek
jumps a few times to give the shocks a good
workout and much to our delight, they soaked
up the hits, never bottoming out once, even
when we flat landed it with a 200+ pound test
rider.

ATVriders.com's
Harlen Foley tested out the suspension
on the YFZ450X by jumping over both creek
jumps used for the Big Buck GNCC &
the YFZ 450X suspension soaked up the
flat landings without bottoming out the
suspenion. |
We did notice a little bit of kick in the rear
end when hitting some of the choppy sections,
but by slowing down the rear rebound from the
factory setting helped solve the issue. Another
benefit of this quad is that the shocks are
top of the line and can be revalved and set
up for any rider and riding situation, which
eliminates the need for expensive aftermarket
replacement shocks for most riders and racers.
