Montebello, Canada - Always an innovator
in the ATV industry, Can-Am/BRP has once again stepped
up and raised the bar by producing a new Side-by-Side
line that blows the competition away. With more horsepower,
incredible handling, and surprising comfort, the Can-Am
Commander line is very impressive indeed.
Rumors had been circulating for a couple of years
over whether or not Can-Am would put out a UTV and
if they did, what size engine would be used was highly
speculated. We were very pleased to find out that
Can-Am has not only produced one of the most powerful
UTV’s on the market, but they have given us
options, lots of options in fact, which is something
some other manufacturers tend to overlook

The Can-Am Commander is offered in both an 800cc,
which includes two package options, and a 1000cc version,
that has three package options to choose from. While
the Can-Am Commander 800R’s Rotax® 800 EFI
V-Twin, offers up a whopping 71 horsepower stock,
the Commander 1000 boasts a Rotax® 1000 V-twin,
newly developed just for the UTV, that turns out an
adrenaline pumping 85 HP, which is over 30 ponies
more than the competition. Not only does the new Commander
line offer the most power, but it surprisingly offers
the best fuel economy of any UTV.
To introduce such a big addition to the Can-Am/BRP
product line, it was only fitting that the Canadian
manufacturer should go all out and host an amazing
two day press event at the prestigious resort in the
world, in Montebello, Quebec. ATVriders.com was on
the guest list for what was to be an incredible experience
testing out Can-Am’s new Commander UTV’s.

We were very excited to test out the Commander side-by-sides
as we were in the perfect location with the Le Chateau
Montebello being situated on several thousand acres
of recreational forest. Wanting to have more than just
one rider’s opinion on Can-Am’s flagship
UTV’s, we asked Pro ATV racer Harold Goodman to
join us and with over 20 years of riding/racing experience,
we figured he was pretty well qualified for the job
at hand.
The riding area where we were to get our first glimpse
of the Commander was about a half hour drive from
the hotel. The scenery was beautiful, but as we stepped
out of the vehicles we were greeted by a slew of biting
flies and mosquitoes that seemed just as eager to
get a taste of us as were to get our first taste of
the Commander. Soon we forgot all about the flying
pests and were drawn in by the Can-Am Commanders that
were lined up and ready to take any punishment we
could dish out.
