The Indian summer weather continued with temperatures
approaching 100 degrees at the start of the afternoon
race. The unique course, which comprised both
of Glen Helen’s motocross tracks, the off-road
truck section, as well as some low-lying brush
sections, was typical Glen Helen with lots of
elevation change adding to the excitement.

ATV holeshot |
Sparks Racing’s David Haagsma grabbed the holeshot,
but Baron made quick work in taking the lead,
and Baron was able to pull away after Haagsma
pit stop to secure the victory, his first in WORCS
since February and since a serious injury suffered
in a motocross event in Arizona.
“I haven’t been here since I was hurt in Havasu,
and I feel like my fitness is finally coming around
and I’m getting comfortable on the bike again,”
said Baron. “The course layout was pretty awesome.
I love this place. There are big elevation changes,
high speed stuff, tight windy stuff, some sand
whoops, and some rocks. It’s a good course.

Block's Beau Baron was challenged early
on by his teammate, David Haagsma, for the
lead |
“I got a good start behind David and made the
pass going through the downhill; I just charged
it,” added Baron. “He was pressuring me for awhile
there. I was trying to run my own lines, but it
was difficult. Once he pitted, it allowed me to
relax a little bit and carry a pace to the finish
line. “

Beau Baron secured his fourth win of the
season in the WORCS Pro ATV class at Glen
Helen |
Haagsma dogged Baron early in the race, but a
slow pit stop relegated him to the second spot
on the podium. Haagsma has yet to finish out of
the top two this season and has five victories
and four second place finishes, and he merely
needs to finish on the podium in the next race
to clinch his first WORCS Pro ATV Championship.

Racing's David Haagsma finished in the 2nd
Spot at Glen Helen |
“I got a great start, but two or three turns
in, Beau just got a better drive and took the
lead,” explained Haagsma. “It was so muddy that
it was hard to stay behind him. I pulled in early
to get some new goggles and to fill up. We overfilled
the fuel tank and it stalled the bike. We push
started it and by the time we got going it was
already too late. So we settled for second.”
