Beau Baron also had his sights set on the holeshot,
but just lost out to Piplic on the first lap.
“I got off to a good start, but I got a
nudge from Ryan. I ran wide in the first corner
and Ryan pulled me out of the corner,” said
Baron. “That was pretty much it. Once we
got into the dust, he pulled away. He would hit
a lapper, and I would challenge, but I wasn’t
able to pass. It was tough because the start meant
so much here. The RZR was great with the Walker
Evans suspension, the Sparks motor and the Maxxis
Tires. It was really dry and dusty, but it was
pretty fun.”

Baron trailed Piplic for the entire race
but was unable to make a pass due to the
tight course and lapped traffic |
Mickey Thomas earned his first WORCS Pro SxS
podium finish. “It was pretty dusty and
I lost my power steering on the first lap,”
said Thomas. “I started fourth, and took
third in the motocross section. It was definitely
familiar to me. It was a lot like Georgia with
bigger trees. I’m really getting comfortable
in the series, so hopefully we can keep it going.”

Georgia
native, Mickey Thomas earned his first WORCS
Racing Pro SxS Podium at Straddleline |
Guthrie said the race was really over for him
at the start; “This race was all about the
holeshot,” said Guthrie. “I let (Mickey
Thomas) get by me. I made a stupid mistake. It
was one of those races where you had to hang back
and just let the race happen. A lot of people
were skeptical about the trees and the dust, but
I had a really good time.”

Guthrie Jr. just missed the WORCS Pro SxS
Podium in fourth |
Haagsma said passing opportunities were definitely
at a premium: “I got fifth at the start
and ended up fifth,” said Haagsma. “We
did a choo-choo train around the track. I think
there was only one pass in the Pro Class. It was
very dusty and we caught a lot of lappers. I tried
to take (Mitch Guthrie), but I really couldn’t
do anything.”
