WORCS Racing Pro ATV Race Report - Continued

Beau Baron - Suzuki LTR450 ATV
The WORCS Pro Rookie, Beau Baron, continues to impress as he charged his way from behind to claim the 4th spot & Beau is now only 3 points behind Dustin Nelson in the points race for the 2nd Spot
Meanwhile, Beau Baron, who is currently sitting only three points behind Nelson in the points chase, got off to a mid pack start and was working feverishly to get to the front. “I came off the line in 8th place and had worked up to 6th, but then I got stuck behind some of the Pro-am class riders who had gone the wrong way on the track. They must have thought we were in the same class because they were trying to race me and wouldn’t let me by and I could see Eichner just in front of them and he was starting to pull away,” said Baron. The wrong-way Pro-am riders ended up getting black-flagged and Baron was able to resume his pursuit of Doug Eichner. “I finally caught up to Eichner, but he is really tough to pass. It took two laps of me giving it everything I had to get around him,” said Beau. The number 549 Suzuki was finally able to pass Eichner to take over 4th place in the sixth lap.

Mike Cafro - Honda TRX 450R ATV
Once Again, Doug Eichner & Robbie Mitchell battled for the 5th spot, and the veteran, Eichner, was able to secure the spot as he maintains a top 5 spot in the points race with just a 3 point margin over Mitchell heading to the final round
Honda's Mike Cafro has been battling through injuries most of the season, which have slowed down and kept him out of the top 10, since round 1, but a 7th place finish has gave Cafro a boost in points, and he is now just 6 points out of a top 10 finish

After lap seven, the order of the top six did not change for the remainder of the race. Motoworks’ Josh Frederick was first to reach the checkered flag with a time of 01:36:01, which was 2 minutes faster than his teammate Brandon Smith who took second. With Josh taking the win, it also wrapped up the 2008 Pro Championship for him. “Everything just went really well for me this weekend,” Josh said. “The bike was running perfectly and I got a great start. It really makes it easy when the bike is running so well.”

Josh Frederick Wins WORCS Pro ATV Championship
Josh Frederick takes the checkered flag for his 2nd straight win, and 5th of the season to wrap-up his 2nd Straight WORCS Pro ATV Championship
Now that he has won his second consecutive championship, Josh admits that it is a big weight off of his shoulders. “It takes a lot of stress off of me now, and I can go out there at the final round and just have fun. I still want to win it, but I also want to have fun while I’m out there,” he stated.

Dustin Nelson crossed the finish line in third with Beau Baron only 40 seconds behind him. “Josh may have wrapped up the championship, but Beau and I are really close in points, so we kind of have our own little battle going on out there so the last round is going to be pretty interesting for us,” said Nelson who has 124 points.

“When I first started racing quads this year, I thought I would do pretty good, but I had no idea I would make it into the top three. Now my expectations have gotten a little higher and I’m really going to do my best out there at the last round,” said Baron who crossed the finish line in 4th place and currently holds third in the points race with 121 points.

The battle for 4th in the points race will be interesting as well with Mike Machado, Polaris’s Doug Eichner, DAT’s/Kawasaki’s Robbie Mitchell, and Motowork’s Brandon Smith, all within 11 points of each other, just about anything can happen, especially if Smith is able to take the podium again, there could be quite an upset in the top five.
