Lake Havasu, AZ - Round number
three of the WORCS series headed back to the desert
southwest to the Crazy Horse GP Park in Lake Havasu,
AZ. Despite sweltering temperatures and rough track
conditions, Polaris/Yoshimura’s Doug Eichner
ran away with the win in the main event, while Can-Am/Motoworks’
Brandon Smith ended his string of bad luck claiming
1st place in the Open Pro class and 2nd for Sunday’s
Pro race. This weekend also saw two Pro podium finishes
for Pro rookie Beau Baron, while Polaris’s
Angela Butler claimed her third consecutive victory
in the Women’s A class.

Doug
Eichner's Polaris Outlaw out-powered the
competition through the first turn to grab
the Holeshot with teammate John Shafe tucking
in behind of Eichner in the 2nd spot |
“We had a pretty good weekend,” said
Doug Eichner in regards to his 1st Pro ATV win
of the season. “I got the holeshot and was
able to hold the lead for the whole race,”
Doug said happily. Unfortunately, Eichner’s
teammate, John Shafe, was feeling under the weather.
Shafe came on strong at the start of the race
and held 2nd place until lap six and began to
taper off once fatigue started to set in. Shafe
still managed to hold his ground in the top 10,
finishing in 7th place. Polaris/Yoshimura’s
female team member, Angela Butler, grabbed the
holeshot and checked out on the rest of the Women’s
A class, taking her 3rd consecutive win, which
once again qualified her for the Pro-Am final
where she finished in a very impressive 7th place
and is currently holding fast to 6th place in
the points race.

Frederick's winning streak ends with a DNF
after charging up to 2nd place by the 6th
lap of the race, but he remains the Pro
ATV Class Points leader |
Pro ATV champ, Josh Frederick, came off the line
looking strong and was nipping at Eichner’s
heels when the heat and rough conditions took their
toll. “I was right on Doug’s tail in
lap 7 when my bike overheated and just expired,”
said Josh disappointedly. Josh ended his day with
a DNF but is still leading the Pro class by 11 points.
“It was over 90 degrees out there. There were
a lot of guys having issues because of the heat
and having to come into the pits to get their bikes
cooled down,” added Can-Am/Motoworks team
manager Johnny Leach.
According to Leach and Frederick, the team is
already gearing up for round 4 and are preparing
for a typical wet, western Washington race. “We’re
hoping for sun, but preparing for rain,”
Josh said lightheartedly. “We developed
some screens for the radiators to keep the mud
off and will be testing them out at the next round,”
concluded Johnny.
