Pro rookie, Beau Baron, who is new to the WORCS
series this year, has been having a very impressive
season despite this being his first year on 4 wheels.
“I made the switch from dirtbikes to quads
about a year ago,” said Baron, who worked
his way up from 10th place off the line to finish
in 3rd. “Mike Machado and I battled back and
forth for a little while until I was able to make
the pass and stay in front of him, then I was following
Shafe for a couple laps, but since he wasn’t
feeling well, he sort of fell back and I got around
him,” said Baron. Once he passed Shafe, Baron
soon caught up to and over took Yamaha rider Dustin
Nelson, for a 3rd place finish.

Yamaha's
Dustin Nelson tied Josh Frederick for the
fastest laptime in lap two with a 6:27.9 |
Nelson, who had a nasty crash towards the beginning
of the race, was feeling battered and bruised. “I
was trying to make a pass on John (Shafe) and got
a little too close and couldn’t see my line
and ended up flipping over the berm,” said
Dustin. “After that I had to pull into the
pits because my bike got a little bent up and I
had to get the clutch and brake levers bent back
out so they were usable,” he concluded. Aside
from some bumps, bruises and being pretty sore,
Nelson was not seriously injured. The factory Yamaha
racer recorded the fastest lap time in the Pro Main
event of 6:27.9 and managed to finish in 4th place
despite crashing. Mike Machado, who has been very
consistent this season, rounded out the top 5 for
the Pro ATV class and is currently in 4th for series
points.

DATS team member Brandon Brown seemed to be having
a better go of things this round on his new Kawasaki
KFX450. “We’ve done lots of testing
and are still working a couple things, but I think
I’m really going to like the new ride,”
stated Brown, who has only logged about 20 hours
aboard the KFX. “Round 2 was literally my
first day on the bike,” he said. Brown managed
to come back from a tangle up off the line and
go from 17th place up to a 6th place finish in
Sunday’s main event, which puts him in 5th
place in the points race. The Oregon native has
mixed feelings about the next round, but is hoping
he will have an advantage for the Washington race.
“Since the next round is basically at my
home track, I think I’ll have a bit of an
advantage on the MX section,” he said, “But
personally I think they’re crazy for having
a race in the Seattle area in April. We will probably
be better off racing on jet ski’s for that
one!” joked Brown.
