Terracross Championship
Glamis Camp RZR Race Report
::Continued::
The track took its toll on the field with many
RZRs suffering plugged radiators due to the sandy
surface. The track was built by Luburgh and fellow
competitor Dana Creech at the Imperial Sand Dunes,
using sand, gravel, and chain link fencing on
the faces of some of the jumps.

Creech, who added a third-place finish to his
2015 tally here, was pleased with the way the
track held up. “We were able to dig down a little
ways and get some granite gravel,” said Creech.
“That held up really well. Jason put a fence over
the faces of the jumps to keep the takeoffs together
and it worked awesome. We didn’t touch a jump
all weekend.”

Jason Luburgh
& Dana Creech overcame an incredible
challenge of building a challenging Terracross
course in the sand that held up for an
entire weekend of racing at Glamis Camp
RZR
|
Luburgh was relieved at how well the track held
together: “I was worried about building this course.
We started with sand, and I didn’t think it was
going to hold together. The desert guys seemed
to like it a little more, which was cool.”
UTV Underground’s Mitch Guthrie Jr saved everything
for the last race by winning his first race of
the season after experiencing more than his share
of bad luck this season. Hanco Utilities’ Cole
Cottew finished second, ahead of Jagged X Racing’s
Brandon Schueler.

“We definitely had a tough season so it was nice
to come out of the last race with a win,” said
Guthrie Jr. “It was really cool to do it in front
of the whole Camp RZR crowd. I’ve had a lot of
bad luck in the heats and that put in the back
in the finals this year. I started on the front
row today and missed all of the carnage. I got
the lead and led every lap.”

Speaking of desert guys, multi-time BITD Pro
UTV champion, Brandon Schueler, finished third
in the second race of the weekend in his TerraCross
debut. Schueler was filling in for Andy Ives and
drove from last place to earn the final spot on
the podium.
“I qualified absolutely dead last; I literally
was the last person to qualify for that race,”
said Schueler. “It was a combination of not breaking
and being in the right place at the right time
that gave me the podium. I haven’t done anything
like this. It was definitely intimidating and
not was I was used to, but I had fun doing it.”
