Racetown 395- Round 2

Adelanto, CA (4/16/2013) – Round two of the Yamaha Quad-X Series was held Sunday April 14th at Racetown 395 in Adelanto, CA. Sunny skies and gusty winds created a unique weather situation for the race. The racers had to fend off the competition and be careful not to get unseated during the 20 – 30 mile per hour wind gusts.  Yamaha’s Dustin Nelson bested the pro field by taking his first win of the season.  H&M Motorsports duo of David Haagsma and Beau Baron rounded out the pro podium.

Yamaha’s Dustin Nelson raced his Yamaha YFZ450R ATV to 2-1 finishes at Racetown 395, earning him his first win of the season. In the first moto, Nelson got off to a decent start and decided to take an inside line on the first turn. His line choice set him up in second position coming out of the corner.

Nelson began a battle with the H&M Motorsports Team. David Haagsma was in front of the Yamaha racer and Beau Baron was right on his rear bumper. The wheel to wheel trio quickly pulled away from the rest of the field. Nelson remained in second place after repeated passing attempts on the narrow course.

The windy conditions at the track made it difficult for the racers to stay in their lines and jump safely. The winds kept a few of the racers grounded when conquering the larger jumps. Nelson was the only racer to hit the big step triple on the track, and he even decided to quit jumping it after getting pushed around while airborne.

Nelson took advantage of his inside line again in moto two. He pushed his Yamaha inside on the first turn, before moving inside of Haagsma on the second corner. He took over the lead and remained there for the rest of the moto. He took the moto win by 2.348 seconds.

“This was a huge improvement over round one. I felt really good, and my Yamaha was working awesome,” regarded Nelson after the race.

Maxxis Tire’s David Haagsma used his Curtis Sparks motor to grab the holeshot in moto one. He kept his charge going and never lost the lead throughout the ten lap moto. He crossed the finish with Nelson right on his bumper with a margin of just 0.007 between the two.
