Yamaha / Quad-X Racing Series
Glen Helen - Round 1
San Bernardino, CA (3/21/2013) – The season opener of the Yamaha Quad X Series kicked off Saturday March 17th at the Glenn Helen Raceway in San Bernardino, CA. H&M Motorsports’ David Haagsma went 2-1 to earn the win over his teammate Beau Baron. Yamaha’s Dustin Nelson rounded out the final podium position.

Eleven pros lined the gate for the first round. A newly designed track at Glenn Helen Raceway was rough and ready for the racers to make their mark. Although there was dense fog to start the day, the weather was perfect in the mid 70’s, for the pro race.

Defending Quad X Champion, David Haagsma picked up right where he left off. Haagsma finished 2-1 for the day which gave him and edge over the rest of the stacked field. In the first moto, Haagsma got off the line behind his teammate and began a battle for the lead. Haagsma fell off the pace of the leader when he cased a double and stalled his Honda in the next corner.

“It took me a few kicks to get it going again and by then Nelson and Row had passed me,” regarded Haagsma of his troubles in the first moto.

Once he was moving again Haagsma was able to quickly get around Row. He was 20 seconds off the pace of Nelson but put on a last lap charge and was able to pass him when the Yamaha racer made a mistake.

In the second moto, Haagsma used his Curtis Sparks engine to grab the holeshot. He battled with Baron for half the race, but was able to gap his teammate after Baron made a mistake. He cruised to the finish and crossed the checkers 19.058 seconds ahead of second position.

“It feels great to get this win. It is good momentum for the rest of the year and I am really happy with it,” said Haagsma.

Maxxis Tires’ Beau Baron finished 1-2 and earned second overall for the round. Baron had smooth sailing in the first moto; he grabbed the holeshot and kept his Honda out front for the entire moto.

The second moto didn’t go as smooth for the H&M Motorsports backed racer. He got stuck in the same corner that plagued his teammate during the previous moto and lost time.  Baron was able to maintain his second position and crossed the finish line 11 seconds ahead of third.
