Yamaha’s Dustin Nelson got off the gate in
the second position in moto one, and he spent his
laps battling with Beau Baron. He and Baron remained
wheel to wheel most of the race. Even swapping positions
early on, only for Nelson to put the hammer down
and hold onto the second spot.

Luck seemed to be on Nelson’s side for
the second moto. He earned his first GYTR Holeshot
award of the year and with teammate Josh Row behind
him, which was exactly where needed to be for
                                a chance at the championship.

#94 Dustin Nelson grabbed the Moto 2 Holeshot
followed by #417 Josh Row | “I was so stoked to get the holeshot. I
was where I wanted to be, so I wouldn’t
have to pass anyone,” said Nelson of his
holeshot. The pressure was soon on Nelson; although Haagsma
had a bad holeshot he made quick work of the rest
of the field and was soon on his bumper battling
for the win. The two stayed bumper to bumper for
several laps until Nelson caught a hard edge and
                                slide around further than anticipated.

“I started sliding and quickly got on the
throttle but by the time I recovered Davie (Haagsma)
was next to me,” said Nelson.

Nelson finished the Quad X Series in second position
with 2-2 finishes at round ten. He actually tied
with Haagsma in total points, but lost the championship
because Haagsma had earned the win at the final
round, which was the tie breaker.

#94 Dustin Nelson held the lead in Moto
2 till the final laps before Haagsma made
the pass with Nelson finishing in the 2nd

Baron went 3-3 for the day to secure third overall
for year. In the first moto Baron got a solid
start in third position. He then went bar to bar
with Nelson in the battle for second spot. At
one point Baron was able to get around the Yamaha
rider, but couldn’t make it stick when he
made a mistake after the rhythm section.

#549 Beau Baron briefly made the pass on
#94 Dustin Nelson in Moto One, but Baron
left the door open in the whoops, which
allowed Nelson to pass on the inside | “I was bummed; I knew it would be really
hard to get around him anywhere else. And in the
next lap he took my line,” regarded Baron
                                of his battle with Nelson.

Moto two went a little rougher for Baron. Josh Row
and Nelson cut over on the holeshot and sandwiched
the H&M duo of Baron and Haagsma. Both needed
a quick reaction on the brakes in order to avoid
                              locking wheels..

                                      Sparks Racing's #549 Beau Baron went 3-3
on the day, which allowed him to maintain
the 3rd spot in Pro points | Once Baron got his bearings, he began to make
work of the front field. He got around Brinkerhoff
and then teamed up with Haagsma and passed Row
which boosted him to third spot. Near the end
of the moto, Baron’s engine began to knock
a bit, so he had to back it down in order to finish
the race. “Eventually Row caught me and tried to
pass, but I rode a wide quad. I rolled the jumps
and just kept it so he couldn’t get around
                                me,” said Baron.
