Second place at
the Millville, Minnesota OMA Nationals
event was earned by Matt Lindle. The
Iowa teenager put in a strong ride after
being away from the series.

Second place was earned by Matt Lindle aboard
his Mom and Dad sponsored Quad City Quad Doctor
Streamline Brakes Honda. The teenager from rural
Muscatine, Iowa has been absent from the series
for some time, but chose to make a visit to the
awesome facility at Spring Creek. “It wasn’t
bad,” he said. “I had a little bit
of a slow start there. I had to kick it a few
times.” After the poor start, Lindle made
his way toward the front. “I got past a
few people on the first lap,” recalled Lindle.
“I ran behind two guys for the first two
laps. We were racing hard. I got around the one
and just was slowly catching back up to the other
guy. I got around him and just kept my head down
and kept pushing.” After gapping most everyone
Lindle suddenly started having trouble. He said
“on the last lap my chain came off two times,
so I had to get it back on. Luckily I had a big
enough lead.” His lead was diminished, but
Lindle still owned second place with a gap of
one minute and nineteen seconds over John Pitts.

John Pitts ignored
his overheat warning light to finish
the Motion Pro Spring Creek XC with
third place. The Moose Racing Rekluse
Honda was very hot, but still running
after nine laps of battle.

The final spot on the Motion Pro podium was occupied
by John Pitts. The Missouri based Moose Racing
Rekluse Honda rider was happy to finish after
some overheating concerns with his EBS Powermadd
Honda. “Third place; I’m happy with
that for the day,” said the smiling racer.
“Everything ran great. The overheat light
came on about the second lap. I said I’m
not pulling out again. I’ve done it before.
I’m just gonna run it. Luckily it went on
and kept going.” Pitts dropped out early
in Michigan with an overheat light on and concerns
for the motor. This time he threw caution to the
wind and pressed on, ignoring the overheat warning.
He said “Bryan (Hulsey) threw a bucket of
water on it and cooled it down for a lap, and
the light came back on again. Hopefully it didn’t
hurt anything, but it got me to the end, at least.”

Bryan Hulsey dropped
out after three laps of the OMA Nationals
round six event. The Dirtworks Motorsports
Duncan Racing Honda experienced overheating
very early in the event.

Shane Gaunt enjoyed
three laps in the lead at the OMA Nationals
Spring Creek
XC, but electrical gremlins sidelined
the Morton, Illinois teenager after
just three very fast laps.

Overheating and machine failure became a real
concern at this installment of the Parts Unlimited
OMA Nationals. Defending series champion Bryan
Hulsey dropped out early due to an overheat light.
Hulsey said “I came in again to fill the
radiator and tried to go out again for the third
time, and it still was running hot. It was so
early in the race that I knew it wouldn’t
finish, but seeing everybody else finish with
hot motors is starting to make me think maybe
I should have went ahead and tried to finish.”
We will never what might have been, but Hulsey
finished the day in fifth place, behind Shane
Gaunt. Attrition was the word of the day, and
this race turned into a survival exercise. It
was not a play ride through the Minnesota woods.
This was another adventure in the world of Gusse.
You will become a better racer with the experience
gained at an OMA Nationals event. You just might
not realize it while your comfort zone is being
pushed beyond your self-imposed limits. This is
offroad racing.
