Lyman, ME - Kawasaki mounted
Joe Haavisto conquered the wet and muddy conditions
at round five of the NEATV-MX series to take a
dual win in the Pro and Pro-am classes, while
Danny Lewis went down hard in Pro-am moto two,
which left him injured and possibly out for the
rest of the season.
MX207 was the hosting track for this weekend’s
events where rain was falling off and on all weekend.
Track conditions were muddy, which prompted many
racers to change their tire set-ups and run bigger
tires to maximized traction. “The mud made
it tough to get off the gate,” said Pro/Pro-am
class racer Justin Hoffler, who opted for bigger
tires.

Holeshot |
The slick muddy conditions didn’t seem
to bother Danny Lewis one bit. Danny took the
holeshot in moto one with Josh Creamer, Joe
Haavisto, Thomas Mofford and Justin Hoffler
right behind him. Josh Creamer got around Lewis,
as did Haavisto, but Creamer’s lead was
short lived as the Kawasaki racer was sidelined
with motor problems due to all the mud, which
allowed Joe Haavisto to take the lead. Once
in front, Haavisto didn’t have to worry
so much about the mud and checked out on the
rest of the Open Pro Class while the rest of
the pack settled in. as they crossed the finish
line, it was Haavisto in 1st, followed by Thomas
Mofford, and Jacob Hakala.

In Open Pro moto two, it was Lewis who once
again took the holeshot, followed by Haavisto,
Mofford and Hoffler. While Haavisto checked
out, Michael Pilotte was recovering from a slow
start and working his way up through traffic
where he battled with Hoffler for 3rd place.
Pilotte got around Hoffler and held his position.
At the finish line, it was Joe Haavisto who
claimed the Pro class win, while Michael Pilotte’s
4-3 finish earned him 2nd overall and Danny
Lewis took the final spot on the podium. Thomas
Mofford claimed 4th overall and Jacob Hakala
rounded out the top five.
In the Open Pro-Am class, it was Danny Lewis
who yet again got the holeshot, but Haavisto
was once again right on his grab bar waiting
for Lewis to make a mistake. Haavisto soon got
his wish and took over the lead. As the reached
the checkered flag, it was Haavisto in front,
followed by Jacob Hakala in 2nd and Thomas Mofford
in 3rd. As racers left the gate for the second
Open Pro-Am moto, Danny Lewis continued to dominate
the holeshot, followed by Josh Creamer, Thomas
Mofford and Joe Haavisto, but Lewis’s
lead would be short lived. “I hit some
really bad breaking bumps, got crossed up and
flipped,” Lewis recalled. “I dislocated
my hip and won’t be able to race for at
least a couple of months now,” he said
disappointedly.
