Montreal, Quebec - Blue, Yellow,
and Red were the dominating colors on the podium
at the 2008 Montreal Supercross as Yamaha’s
Pat Brown took top honors, with Can-Am/Epic’s
Greg Gee in second, and Honda mounted Harold Goodman
claimed a close third.
The Montreal Supercross has always been an attractive
event for racers due to the large number of spectators
that are always in attendance. Even though attendance
did seem to drop a little compared to previous
years, there were still over 50,000 race fans
there, cheering on their favorites.

Although dirtbikes and ATV’s are the main
supercross attractions, they are not the only
vehicles that race at the event. There are also
car and buggie classes that do a sort of auto-cross
race on a tamer track setup than what the bikes
run. It just so happened that when the quads went
out to practice, race officials originally had
the quads racing on the auto-cross track, which
was a little mellower than what most of the pros
were used to. After several crashes last year
due to the size and technicality of some of the
jumps, officials thought it would be better to
have the quads run the less challenging auto-cross
track, but that didn’t sit too well with
many of the riders, who wanted to put on a good
show for the thousands of fans in attendance.
After a bit of discussion, it was decided that
some of the dirtbike course would be incorporated
into the quad track as well to give the riders
a little more variety and some bigger jumps, which
pleased most racers.

de Supercross Winner #22 Cody Miller
|
During the five lap warm up race, Can-Am/Warnert
Racing’s Cody Miller, who was last year’s
winner, claimed the fastest lap time with 44.357
seconds while Jasmine Plante and Harold Goodman
also laid down some impressive times in the 44-second
range.
Goodman’s speed that he displayed in the
warm up race was apparent in the main event. As
the flag was waved, Goodman and Greg Gee were
tire to tire going into the first turn, but Goodman
was able to edge out Gee to take the holeshot.
Not far behind was Pat Brown, Richard Pelchat,
and Yamaha’s Thomas Brown, who was making
his pro racing debut. A few racers got tangled
in the first corner, including Can-Am/Epic’s
Sage Baker, which allowed the top five off the
line to put a little distance between themselves
and the rest of the pack.

Can-Am's John
Natalie Jr got tangled up on the start,
and it was jus the beginning of his problems
as he would only complete 3 laps of the
race after tangling later with Hunter
Miller

Shortly into the first lap, Pat Brown began to
pressure Gee and Goodman. Gee had a close call
on one of the jumps, which allowed enough time
for Brown to slip by him and begin his pursuit
of Goodman, who was in the lead. Pat made his
move and took over the lead before the end of
the first lap. Gee also made his way around Goodman
in the first lap and began to close the gap on
Brown.
As racers made their way into the third lap,
Hunter Miller and Can-Am/Warnert Racing’s
John Natalie connected. The resulting carnage
left both of them on the sidelines for the rest
of the race. Cody Miller also ran into trouble
in the third lap. “I ended up crashing.
I hurt my leg a little bit and my handle bars
were bent up pretty bad,” said Miller disappointedly.
Cody’s crash also left him unable to continue
the race.
