Montreal Supercross
Pro ATV Race Report - Continued
 |
Yamaha's #84
Thomas Brown made his Pro debut at the
Montreal Supercross & battled with
Richard Pelchat for the 4th spot, with
Pelchat taking the position and Brown
rounding out the Top 5
|
Thomas Brown, who was running in a very impressive
4th place, was doing well despite the pressure
from Canadian racers, Plante and Pelchat. Brown
held his position for five laps before Pelchat
was able to get past him, but the # 84 Yamaha
stayed strong and held off Plante for the remainder
of the ten lap race.
Meanwhile there was an intense battle going on
for first between leader Pat Brown and Greg Gee.
Gee had been right on Pat’s grab bar since
the first lap and had no intensions of backing
down. Every time when it looked as if Gee might
get his chance to take over the lead, Brown would
shut him down. “I had a great time out there.
Greg and I were battling the entire race. It was
really fun!” Pat said excitedly.

“Pat and I were really close. I was right
there waiting for him to make a mistake,”
said Gee. Luckily, Brown kept his cool and held
Gee off for the entire race, taking his first
pro win of the year. Gee crossed the finish line
right on the #199 Yamaha’s grab bar, while
Harold Goodman’s solid performance allowed
him to claim the final spot on the podium. “I
still had a good time out there. I got the holeshot,
but I wasn’t able to hold on to it. Pat
was really on his game,” said Goodman.
Richard Pelchat was able to hang on for fourth
place, while rookie pro, Thomas Brown, held off
veteran racer Jasmin Plante to claim an impressive
5th place, leaving Plante to settle for 6th. Sage
Baker, who got off to a rough start, worked his
way up to finish in 7th, while Michael Ouellette
claimed 8th and Bobby Desjardins and James Bank
rounded out the top ten.

On a more somber note, Blair “Superman”
Morgan suffered a devastating crash during the
Pro dirtbike practice. Morgan, who is a many time
Pro Sno Cross World Champion, five-time X-Games
Gold Medallist, and accomplished Pro motocross
racer, was rushed to the hospital with a broken
back, a severed spinal cord and no feeling from
the waist down. Morgan underwent emergency surgery
to fuse two vertebrae in his back, and is in intensive
care, where he is expected to remain for a couple
of weeks. Blair has sustained many injuries over
his career and has always managed to comeback
from those injuries, but this time the prognosis
doesn’t look so good for the 27 year-old
Canadian.
“Blair is doing better this morning and
is eating,” is what Blair’s sister,
Rachel, posted in a blog early Monday morning.
Unfortunately, she also stated that doctors have
indicated that Blair’s paralysis is permanent
and cannot be reversed. Our thoughts are with
Blair and his family during this trying time and
we at ATVriders.com wish Blair all the best in
his recovery.
