Defending 2011 Montreal Supermotocross Champion Richard Pelchat announced his retirement after winning the Quebec Quad-Cross Championship earlier that day
|
Quebec’s Richard Pelchat says that this weekend was the icing on the cake to his career. Pelchat announced his retirement and used the Montreal Supermotocross event to go out with a bang. Pelchat earned a top five finish in the main event against international competition and secured his Quebec Quad-Cross Championship in their season finale earlier in the day. Pelchat’s successful career ends with seven Canadian championships and eight Quebec championships. Pelchat also won the 2011 Montreal Supermotocross event and was happy with outcome of his final race.
“I was going at it with all my heart and going as fast as I can. I have really enjoyed this year and done more than I thought I would. Racing teaches you so much, not only about the sport but also about yourself” reflects Pelchat.
Pelchat plans to build a fabrication shop to manufacture hand rails and stairs. ATVriders.com wishes him all the best in life off the track.
Baldwin’s Josh Upperman and Can-Am’s Cody Miller also crossed the border and put laps in at the event. Upperman kept the pressure on Natalie in their heat race and came in second spot. Issues with his exhaust in the main event, cost the Ohio rider, Josh Upperman, a chance at the podium.

Baldwin Motorsports' Josh Upperman was in the running to take a podium spot in the Pro ATV Main Event, but his exhaust fell off causing him to fall back |
“It was a fun race, I just had bad luck. All in all it was a good time and I put in good laps, but losing the exhaust really messed up the main” said Upperman.
Miller was pushed into the hay bales by Natalie and Pelchat in the whoops section which caused him to come off his quad. Miller recovered but couldn’t make up the time.

Placing second in the 2011 Montreal Supermotocross TQRA ATV Motocross Racer Cody Miller went off the track in the whoops section costing him a podium position |
“My Can-Am worked great; it took me from near last to fifth in my heat race. Things just didn’t come together for the main” regarded Miller.
The American’s didn’t fare as well in the side by side race. Can-Am’s Josh Frederick and Cody Miller brought their Commanders to the event. Frederick got fifth in his heat which moved him into the main event. A second row gate pick actually helped the driver in the main, as Frederick was able to avoid a major pile up in the first turn.
“The Commander was working awesome. I ended up landing really hard off a huge jump and broke something in the rear end” said Frederick about his race.
Miller didn’t get to the gate with his SxS; as he was running a set up for Texas and wasn’t prepared to the huge jumps that Montreal presented. After a broken driveshaft in practice he opted to sit out the heat and main event races.
Montreal Supermotocross brought together an impressive international field of racers and the depth of talent was amazing. Each race offered exciting battles and the crowd loved every minute of it.
