Dustin Nelson grabbed the moto one holeshot
and began to pull away with Beau Baron right
behind him, but Nelson was able to hold off
the number 549 Honda and take the moto one
win.

#94
Yamaha's Dustin Nelson was the holeshot
king in both of his motos but a slight
mechanical issue in moto two would put
him back to a 7th place finish resulting
in him going 1-7 for 5th overall, which
maintains his points lead with 115 points |
In moto two, it looked as if it would be
a repeat win for Nelson as he took the holeshot
once again and began to pull away, but Nelson’s
luck would run out. Shortly into the second
moto, Nelson’s quad began to cut out
and it wasn’t long before he was left
sitting on the sidelines. Nelson’s 1-7
finishes would put him in fifth overall.
Reed Petchnick would take 6-4 finishes to
claim sixth overall while James Rossi would
go 7-5 to take seventh.

Jason Dunkelberger swept the Open Pro
Class going 1-1 for the Overall Win,
which extended his points lead (114
pts) to 8 points over Kody Evans with
108 pts in 2nd place |
In the Open Pro class, Jason Dunkelberger
was on a roll as he would start out in the
top three in moto one and work his way into
the number one spot to take the moto one win.
Moto two was a repeat for Dunk as he would
charge his way to the front and hold his lead
all the way to the checkered flag for the
moto two win and the overall.
“I really have to thank my mechanics
Josh and Maui. They have been doing a great
job and it finally paid off for us today,”
stated Dunkelberger.
Kody Evans gave a solid performance in the
Open Pro class as well as he would take 4-2
finishes and claim second overall for the
day.
One of the biggest surprises of the day was
the return of veteran racer, Doug Eichner,
who had announced his retirement earlier this
year due to personal reasons. Despite his
absence from the track, Eichner was looking
good as he charged his way to a third place
overall aboard a nearly bone stock KTM 450SX.

2nd
overall in the Open Pro class went to
#37 Kody Evans on his Honda TRX450R
ATV after he went 4-2 on the day |
Doug
Eichner made his return for 2010 for
round 5 at Glen Helen aboard a KTM 450SX
ATV & finished 3rd place overall |
“It felt great to be back out there
and racing. I have really missed racing and
all of my friends that are out here. Our family
is doing well and still hanging in there so
there’s a chance I may do a couple more
Quadcross races this season,” Eichner
said, who is always a fan favorite no matter
where he is racing.
Daniel Ramirez, also aboard a KTM, would
claim 8-3 finishes for a solid fourth place
overall and Darrell Patton, who has had some
bad luck earlier in the season, was looking
consistent as he would round out the top five
overall with 7-6 finishes.
|
#8 John Shafe's 3-14 finishes in the
Open Pro class would give him a 6th
place overall finish aboard his Honda
TRX450R ATV |
John Shafe would finish strong in Open Pro
moto one with a third place finish, but would
encounter issues in the second moto, which
would put him back in 12th and give him sixth
place overall. Keith Tebeau also came on strong
in moto one, taking an impressive second place
finish, but moto two would have Tebeau finishing
in 13th, giving him seventh overall. Francisco
Ruano would take 9-7 finishes for eighth overall
and Suzuki’s Kory Ellis made an appearance
and would claim 6-10 finishes, taking ninth
overall, while Denis Capogni would round out
the Open Pro top ten overall.
Round number six of the 2010 Yamaha ITP Quadcross
series will again be held at Glen Helen Raceway
on August 15th as Dustin Nelson tries to hold
off Beau Baron for the Pro Production win.
