Dustin Nelson dominates ACP to go 1-1 for
the overall Win on his Yamaha YFZ450R ATV |
Yamaha’s Dustin Nelson walked away with
an easy 1-1 victory at round two of the 2010 Yamaha
ITP Quadcross series while MCR/Maxxis racers Beau
Baron and John Shafe joined him on the podium.
Arizona Cycle Park played host for the second
round of the series where warm temps and sunny
skies greeted racers as they lined up for the
first motos of the day, but things didn’t
quite go according to plan for Jason Dunkelberger
as he lined up for the first Pro Production moto.
The series has been cracking down on tech inspections
and holding surprise inspections at the line and
when Dunk’s tether killswitch was checked,
it was found not to be working properly. The number
19 YFZ450R was given two minutes to fix the problem,
but unfortunately, Dunk’s killswitch could
not be fixed in time, so was forced to sit out
the first moto.
Dustin Nelson, on the other hand, appeared to
be having a flawless race as he charged off the
line to grab the Pro Production moto one holeshot.
Nelson looked fast and smooth as he began to pull
away from the pack. At the midway point, the number
94 Yamaha YFZ450R had already pulled an eight
second lead over the competition and by the time
he reached the finish line, Nelson extended his
gap to 10 seconds.

Racing's Justin Noss & Maxxis' Beau
Baron battled both motos for the 2nd spot
with Baron making the pass to claim the
position |
Back in second place, MCR/Maxxis’ Beau
Baron had his hands full as he and Yamaha’s
Justin Noss battled fiercely from start to finish.
Noss, who had taken second in the holeshot, was
holding Baron off, but Baron kept pushing and
finally was able to get by Noss. Although Baron
was able to take over second, Noss was still staying
close as the pair crossed the finish line in second
and third.
John Shafe was also holding his own as he held
on for a close fourth place finish in moto one,
while Jason Fife claimed fifth.

#94 Dustin Nelson grabs the Moto 2 Holeshot
& checks out on the field for the win,
which now has Nelson in the Pro Production
points lead |
Moto two was almost a repeat for Dustin Nelson
as he grabbed his second Pro Production holeshot
of the day. And once again, Nelson began to pull
away, creating a very comfortable gap for himself
as he took his second moto win and the overall.
“Things couldn’t have gone any better
for me this weekend. The bike was running great.
I was able to keep a smooth steady pace and still
pull away. With this win, I am feeling more confident
and I am really looking forward to the rest of
this season,” stated Nelson.
Moto two was also a repeat for Beau Baron and
Justin Noss. The two racers were again tire to
tire battling it out, but for moto two, things
got a little more heated and Baron and Noss ended
up locking wheels, which held them up and allowed
John Shafe to get past. Baron would be the first
to get going again and would cross the finish
line in fourth. Baron’s 2-4 finish was enough
to give him second overall for the day.
