#8 John Shafe claimed the final spot on
the Podium with a 3rd place finish in Moto
2 |
John Shafe looked consistent again in moto two,
and with Baron and Noss getting tangled up, Shafe
was able to take advantage and claim third in moto
two, which landed him the final position on the
podium.
Justin Noss, who was right behind Baron in the
second moto managed to claim fifth, which gave
him fourth overall while Jason Fife’s consistent
5-6 finishes allowed him to round out the overall
top five.
Jason Dunkelberger, who ran into tech issues
in moto one and was not able to compete, came
back strong in moto two to take second place,
but his efforts only allowed him to claim 11th
overall in the Pro Production class.
In the Open Pro class, it was Kody Evans who would
grab the holeshot, but Evans had his hands full
as Jason Dunkelberger was right on his heels and
applying pressure. Dunk waited patiently for Evans
to either tire or to make a mistake, and in the
final lap, Dunk decided to make his move and got
by Evans to take the moto one win, leaving Evans
to finish in a close second.
While the battled raged on between Dunk and Evans,
John Shafe was holding a steady pace behind the
pair and went on to take third in moto one. Keith
Tibeau was holding strong as he crossed the finish
line in fourth and Dean Pierce also held on to
round out the top five for moto one.
In the second Open Pro moto, Kody Evans again
came off the line in first, with Dunk right on
his grab bar; however, this time Dunk was more
determined than ever to get around Evans early
in the race, but things didn’t quite work
out as Dunk intended as he and Evans ended up
getting their wheels locked and stuck together
for a couple of laps before they were able to
get separated, which put both riders at the back
of the pack.
Dunkelberger and Evans’ mishap allowed Francisco
Ruano to pull ahead and take his first Open Pro
moto and overall win of the season. Rafael Guzman’s
7-3 finishes put him in the number two spot on the
podium, while Tony Baxter would claim third overall.
Jason Dunkelberger, who would eventually work
back up into the number 12 spot in moto two would
end up with fourth overall and Dennis Copogni
would round out the top five of the Open Pro class.
Round three of the 2010 Yamaha ITP Quadcross
series will be held at Rynoland in Anza, CA on
May 9th, where Dustin Nelson is hoping to dominate
the podium once again in pursuit of his third
consecutive Pro championship.
