Racetown 395 played host to round 3 of the ITP Quadcross
this past weekend where the Can-Am/Motowork’s
team claimed two podium positions as Brandon Smith
claimed his first ever Pro Quadcross win.
It may have been a typical sunny day in Southern
California, but that sun was also accompanied
by high winds that kicked up the dust and reduced
visibility for racers. Track officials did their
best to try and keep the track watered, but the
dry, desert conditions of the Adelanto area made
that chore a challenge. “There were a couple
of times I just had to play it safe out there
because I couldn’t see anything,”
said Justin Noss, who won his 3rd straight heat
race.

Can-Am
/ Motoworks' Josh Frederick grabbed the
Holeshot on his DS450 followed by Yamaha's
Dustin Nelson & Jesse Goss on the #30
Suzuki LTR450 |
As racers left the line for the Pro Main, it
was Can-Am/Motoworks’ Josh Frederick who
grabbed the Holeshot with Yamaha’s Dustin
Nelson on his heels followed by John Shafe and
Robbie Mitchell. Frederick’s teammate Brandon
Smith was 7th off the line.

#94 Dustin Nelson made the pass on #603
Josh Frederick to take over the lead |
Dustin Nelson wasted no time in taking over the
lead and passed by Frederick shortly into the
1st lap and began pulling away. Meanwhile Brandon
Smith had his work cut out for him after his midpack
start, but that seemed to just fuel his intensity.
“I just concentrated and started to work
my way up. By the end 3rd lap I had moved up to
2nd place,” said Brandon, who had the #94
Yamaha in his sights.
While Smith had his hands full working through
traffic, Nelson had checked out on the rest of
the pack and had an impressive 10-second lead,
but that lead would not last as Smith began to
close the gap. “I just dug really deep and
on the last lap I had closed the gap to only 5
seconds and I was trying to reel him in,”
said Brandon in his pursuit of Nelson.

#70 Brandon Smith capitalizes on Dustin
Nelson’s get-off to take over the
lead and win his first Pro ATV Race for
Motoworks on Can-Am DS450 ATV |
Nelson was pushing hard to keep the #70 Can-Am
at bay, but a the pressure from Smith increased,
it appeared that Nelson pushed just a little too
hard and lost control in a corner, and was ejected
from his quad. Dustin’s mishap allowed Smith
to take over the lead and take the win. “I’m
really excited to take my first win here. I had
crashed last week and I’m still not at 100%
so things played out really well for me,”
said an ecstatic Smith. Nelson was uninjured from
his little get-off and was back on his quad before
anyone could catch up to him. Nelson cross the
finish line in 2nd with Josh Frederick in 3rd,
Justin Noss in 4th and the #30 Suzuki of Jesse
Goss in 5th.
